Google Nest Mini no startup sound

gusdleon

I just bought a Nest mini, and everything worked fine for the first few hours

For some reason I had to reset the device to factory settings (the thing of turning off the microphone and holding the middle button)

And everything started to fail from that moment, I could no longer create or listen to reminders or make calls.

I ended up solving that main problema problem by reseting the Nest mini again and completely deleting the house, starting from 0 completely. And everything worked fine from then on.

Only now the Nest mini doesn't make its characteristic startup sound.

Is there any way to make it work again?

Or was it part of some update that was installed in the last few hours?

Thanks 🙂

@gusdleon if it's what I'm thinking that sound only plays after the initial launch fresh out of the box. The only other time I recall hearing it again is after an extended power failure.

Hey thanks for the reply @GothamNY , but I will say this was a false alarm, yes I had a lot of problems with that factory reset but the chime at startup was not part of that, was simply because I was at night when I noticed that, And it seems like the Nest Mini has a special... I dont know how to call it but a special night mode totally apart the one you can configure in the Home App, And it seems to work the same way Android controls the automatic dark/light theme at dusk and dawn.

I noticed that behavior, just this morning, My phone was in that dark mode approx at 7:50 am and unplugged and plugged again the nest mini, and no sound at startup, but all the commands worked, minutes later my phone changed to light mode and just to make sure redo the procedure of unplugging and replugging the nest, and reproduced the sound of startup. This Reddit comment help me to figure it out.

Maybe you set something using settings here unwittingly, with all the factory reset issues, etc, perhaps?

Thanks again for the reply, and I will start with I respect your title here but it's a no, a big NO, that problem (It's not a problem any more btw) was not related to the settings of night mode, not the night mode you can change in the app,

I'm no one here to say this, but the Google Nest mini, and probably all the nest speakers (probably because I only have the mini) have that separated behavior at night, they are programed to skip that sound ad night.

I just reproduced that "error" just some minutes ago, the mini again doesn't play the startup chime but make the little animation with the LEDs. So.. it how they work

(More info about that in the morning).

@GothamNY Gracias again for the answer and I hope not bother you.

Hi folks,

@GothamNY, thanks for the help!

@gusdleon, how's it going with your Google Nest Mini? Were you able to get the start up sound in the morning again?

Thanks,

Edward

@gusdleon, oh wait, are you referring to the "start-up" sound after one says "hey Google"? If so, that's in the accessibility settings and yes, it may go quiet with night mode, but I don't use it so have never tested it.

To @EdwardT
hey thanks for the reply,
yes, as I said it was a series of problems but the startup chime, was not related to that, I was wrong about that, it seams that boot sound only plays after some specific (maybe dynamic) time in the morning, and stops playing at some moment in the night, but the mini has not setting to control that,
so answering....
yes, the mini it's working fine since then, but probably will be needed to add in some part of the official help that's a feature and not a problem/bug because it looks a lot of people doesn't realize that, the mini has that behavior, you want it or not, it's not controlled by the "Night mode" or the "Do not disturb" setting, if fact you can have that settings off and will still not play that characteristic sound if its at night or too early in the morning.
Thanks 🙂
