Google Nest Mini takes three attempts to work, after a few minutes on inactivity

Hi

For over a month now I've been having issues with my Google mini speaker, where i get the below error, rebooting would fix the issue but after some time like 30mins it would revert to the below messages.

  • "Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds."
  • "There was a glitch. Try again in a few seconds."

initially i thought the speaker was at fault, so decided to purchase a new mini nest speaker, and to my surprise the issue is still happening. I have reset everything, router, APs, upgraded all FW, factory reset the nest.

What i did notice was i slight improvement after connecting it to 5GHz, which failed before. Now i have to ask google 3 times before it works, so after the response

  • "There was a glitch. Try again in a few seconds."

It then works, but after some time it will fail again.

This is getting very frustrating, and seriously considering moving to another voice assistant.

Any help would be great.

thanks

Dave

Hi djt1980,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing that with your Google Nest Mini. I also appreciate all the details you've shared. Since you've almost done all the possible steps, I'd like to ask a few things regarding this-- is this the only Google Nest speakers set up on your network? If no, how many Google Nest speakers are experiencing the same?

Also, could you please provide the cast firmware version of it?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess

Hello there,

Thanks for all the details you've shared. I know that other devices worked well using your network, however, to further isolate the issue, let's perform a complete reset to your Google Nest Mini and after that, let's try setting it up using a different network. If there are no other networks to connect with, you can try setting it up using a mobile hotspot.

Also, please remember that connecting your Google Nest speaker using mobile hotspot will require you to use 2 different phones-- one set up device and the other phone will serve as a network (source of Wi-Fi).

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess
