Google Nest random language change & apps disappear

Hi, for about 4 months now I’m experiencing some issues with my 2nd gen Nest Hub as follows:

- first, the apps completely disappeared (aren’t visible in the menu), only the brightness/volume/… bar is present upon swiping;

- second, the language keeps randomly changing to German, every couple of days, no matter how many times I change it from the Google Home app. I tried switching to all English versions, but same result. I live in Romania, and the purchased product came in German lettering box (just not to surpass any details).

I restarted it, unplugged it and the modem from power supply, hard reset it about 4 times, tried various forum suggestions - none worked, it keeps bugging me.

Regarding your first concern about the apps disappearing, this feature isn't available in Romania, only in the US.

As for your second concern about the language randomly changing to German, it seems that because your region is Romania, the Nest Hub 2nd Gen is no longer officially available there. It's likely that when you purchased it, it came from the nearby region, specifically Germany. This would explain why the device came in a German lettering box and retains the German language settings, even after you've tried troubleshooting and changing it in the Google Home app.

Thanks Byron, but the apps menu worked very well (showed apps and bar) until October - November 2024, although you said it only works in the U.S.

As in the language change, the same period made those randomly changes.

Please tell me what to do, so I can have access to to them again, as in today’s device features lack usability for me.

For your language concern, you can try the suggested steps:

You can add an additional language as your primary; please do the following:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Home app.

  2. At the top right, tap your profile picture or initial, then Assistant settings, then Assistant, and then Languages.

  3. Choose a language.

  • To change the primary language, tap your current language.

  • To add another language, tap Add a language.

  • Important: Some features aren't available in all languages or countries.

For the apps shown on the screen, this option is still not available for all countries. Not sure why your device was showing in the past, so please submit the feedback that was previously posted to work on future updates on this concern.
