Google Nest says it is connected to my bluetooth speaker but still keeps playing audio out of Nest

sparkskzoo

Hi,

I've had this issue before but it randomly fixed itself on it's own (maybe a new app update?)

My Google Nest Home Hub says it is connected to my Bluetooth speakers but it still keeps playing out of the Google Home speaker. I even try to change the default audio to another Google Home in my house and it still keeps playing audio out of the same Google Home. I have forced stop on my Home app, unpaired and repaired and still nothing.

Thanks

Hi sparkskzoo,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. A few things: which Nest speaker/display are we working with? If you have multiple, is the issue happening to all of them? What steps have you tried so far?

You can do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest speakers/ displays for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal. If this did not fix it, try connecting your Nest speaker/display to another Bluetooth device and observe if this will make a difference. Check the steps below for guidance.

Pair and connect a Bluetooth speaker and Google Nest or Home device

  1. Turn on your Bluetooth speaker and make sure it’s in pairing mode. Press the pairing button on your Bluetooth speaker, if possible.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Make sure you're in the right home. The name of the home is at the top of the screen. To change homes, tap the arrow next to the home name.
  4. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  5. At the top right, tap Settings and then Audio.
    • If this is your first time to use Bluetooth on this device, tap Paired Bluetooth devices and then Enable pairing mode and then go back to Audio.
  6. Tap Default music speaker and then Pair Bluetooth speaker. Your Google Nest or Home device will then scan for Bluetooth devices.
  7. Tap the Bluetooth device once it appears on the screen and then Done.
  8. Your Bluetooth device will now pair with your Google Nest or Home device.

Tips to pair and connect devices

  • You can only have one connected Bluetooth speaker or headphones to play music through at a time.
  • Once you pair and connect your Bluetooth speaker to a Google Nest or Home device, it will auto-connect unless the speaker gets disconnected or turned off.
  • You can pair a Google Nest or Home device to multiple Bluetooth enabled speakers or headphones, but it will only connect to the most recently connected device.
  • Check which mobile devices are connected to your Google Nest or Home device.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi Thanks. I chatted with a google rep and they are looking into it. It is happening with all 4 of my devices so appears the issues started with the latest app update.

Is there a fix to this?  My Gen1 Home Hub will no longer stream sound to any Bluetooth device after the firmware update.  Sad.

Yes, I filled out the form.
It has started working today.  I first tested to see if this was a Gen 1 vs Gen 2 issue.  The Gen 2 Hub worked.  I then tried the Gen 1 and it worked.  so.....

Did Google push out a fix?

Mine starting working today as well. I just 'reset' the audio option in the google home app for that device and reconnected to my Bluetooth receiver. Noticed a google home app update was pushed out last night (or at least showed up as new for me).
