Google Smart Displays no longer responding to requests for photo information

HI all my google smart displayes have just stopped responding to questions like "where was that photo taken" & "when was that photo taken". Until 1 April 2025 they would respond with the locations & dates.

Now all I get is "Sorry, I can't do that anymore"  What has happened & how can it be fixed?

I have checked the Google Home app & the device settings & all as as they should be.

Thanks

Hi MarkR5,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand that your Google Nest devices, which previously provided location and date information for photos when asked, are now responding with 'Sorry, I can't do that anymore.' This started happening on or after April 1st, 2025. Thanks for confirming that the Google Home app and device settings appear to be correct. I'm here to help! To gather some more details I'd like to ask the following questions:

Keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Juan

Hi the Google home app on my iphone 16 pro  (IOS 18.3.2)  & ipad  8th gen (IOS 18.3.2) is at latest version (3.303106).

The displays are Lenovo Samrt Display 10 & 7 & Google Nest 2nd Gen & all have recently been reset & are at latest software versions.

The propblem is consistent across all devices.  I suspect something in the privacy rules in the displays interacting with Google Photos has changed. Strangly on some of the photos the location & dates are diplayed on the screen.  But it will not respond other than 'Sorry, I can't do that anymore.'

Same as MarkR5

I have 3 displays that have started to respond the same way. All my setting are correct  and no changes have been made recently

Any updates on this? I just asked my Nest Hub Max when a photo (from my Google Photos library) was taken and got the "Sorry, I can't do that anymore" reply. This has worked fine for literally years and is one of the best features of the Nest Hub for me and my family. Please can you speak to the team to see what happened?

Google continues neutering features from Google and Nest products. It's documented here: https://chromeunboxed.com/google-assistant-is-losing-7-key-features-on-android-and-nest-devices/

Here is a list of 22 features they have removed in the past year, in an attempt to get us all to try to switch to Apple or something else: https://support.google.com/assistant/answer/13971691#zippy=%2Cassistant-changes

Why has this changed? It severely impacts the usability of these devices
