Google Speaker group has stopped playing Apple Music

I have 5 speakers (no idea WHAT kind, near impossible to get device information) connected to my home network. Up until a few weeks ago they were working perfectly. Individually or as a group throughout the house. I would simply say 'Hey Google, play music' and it would play music from my default music service APPLE MUSIC. Now ... nothing. No music at all, it rarely responds with 'error, try again'. Just silence. I look on my Google Home App and nothing loads. So I changed to SPOTIFY as my default, it works ... for 10 seconds then stops for no reason. Ive reset the google speakers so many times I have given up. How much time to I have to sacrifice to figure out how to make it work again?

I have Amazon Alexa speakers that work perfectly, I'm so close to throwing my Google speakers in the bin as they are pretty much useless.

I also have connected my PHILIPS HUE lights but of course they rarely work properly. Some lights turn off, some don't. Verbal instructions are usually ignored or come back with 'cannot connect or they need to be set up' but the HUE app works fine.

Endless frustration.

I have an update ... when I look at Google Home/music I can see it shuffling through songs without playing them, it goes from one to the next without stopping to play. So it tries to play songs but cant seem to connect. How about you fix this GOOGLE!

Spotify doesn’t work either … actually it works for 10 seconds then stops playing. Same issue with every speaker.

Hey folks,

Thanks for bringing this up.

We appreciate all the details you've shared as well as the steps tried before reaching out. Has anyone of you here already performed a complete reset to their Google Nest speakers? Let's go ahead and try that first and see if this would make any changes.

Lastly, could you please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

I have 5 speakers, all different types, Google Home, Nest & Nest speakers. All were working perfectly until about a month ago. Then NOTHING worked when I commanded Google to Play on All Speakers, Spotify would stop after 10 seconds. Apple just keeps shuffling through songs.

So just assume I have read ALL DOCUMENTATION and reset everything as per available information online before I put this query on the forum.

Next step for my Google products will be to put them in the bin and use my 4x Amazon Alexa speakers that work perfectly.

Firmware Version 1.56.356012

I think Google did an upgrade recently and THIS IS A BUG THAT NEEDS FIXING.

Update: New version of Google Home s available. I deleted SPEAKER GROUP and now music plays on individual speakers, not as a group. So music now plays ... but not as a group throughout my home. Now I have to figure out how to group speakers again ... but will this cause an issue? Probably ...

Hi petersuchecki,

Thanks for the additional details you’ve shared, and sorry for the delay. I’m glad that it’s playing music now. Try to create a new speaker group and observe if it makes a difference.

Regards,

Juni
