Google assistant replying in different languages/accents

I've seen a similar problem reported before but couldn't see the solution.

I have my Google Assistant voice set to English US but my Google account was originally from India. Assistant on my Nest WiFi point speaker keeps switching between English US and English India randomly. With English US my routines work accurately but sometimes it'll respond in English India and just not do what is expected. It's as if only the US voice assistant knows the routines I've set up.

@Jake I see you did help someone with this previously. How do I solve it?

Hey mulani,

Thanks for reaching out — let me help you with this.

Make sure your phone's region and language is set to ENG-US. You might also need to change the set country on your Google Account. Check this guide.

Hope this helps.

Best,
Alex

Hi @Azarco

Thanks for your response. My phone was set to US English by default anyway. However, I have removed all other languages now as well. Is it necessary to change the country on my Google account? I'm not keen to do that since I do need some localized apps every now and then and this can be changed only once a year.

If it helps, I'm not facing this issue on any device other than my nest speaker. All other assistant devices work absolutely fine.

Hey there,

Thanks for the update. Have you tried reinstalling your Google Home and Google Assistant app? Also, could you try resetting your Nest speaker to its default settings to see if it will do the trick?

Best,
Alex

Hey mulani,

It's me again. How's it going with your Nest speakers? Did reinstalling your apps and resetting your device help?

Regards,

Alex

Hi @Azarco - thanks for following up.

I wasn't all that keen on resetting the device. I think I have solved it, though.

Here's what I did. I figured it was likely mistaking my voice for my dad's voice. His base language is set to English (India). I changed that to English US and retrained the voice model for myself and it seems to be working fine. No glitches since then.

Appreciate your time 🙂
