Google does what I tell it to, but not my daughter

Taz56
Community Member

Google will do what I ask it to, but noy my daughter. Why?

If I say "Hey Google turn on the kitchen lights" it does.

If my daughter says "Hey Google turn on the kitchen lights" it says one or more devices are not connected.

If I say "Hey Google, Good morning" it plays the set instructions I have set up.

If my daughter says "Hey Google, Good morning" it does different start up actions.

How do I fix this so it works the same for both of us?

Hi Taz56,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that your Speaker or display only recognizes your voice. I'm happy to help! This happens when the Voice Match feature is active. Please follow these steps to turn it off:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial in the top right corner.
  3. Select Assistant settings> Voice Match.
    • If you don't see "Voice Match," tap "View more settings.
  4. Tap the home you want to remove your voice from.
  5. Select "Remove Voice Match from this home" > "Remove.

On the next link, you'll find more information about how Voice Match works please visit voice recognition with Voice Match.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Manuel

I will try this, thank you Manuel.

But why can't it recognize more than one voice?

It would be nicer to have it know my voice and my daughters rather than not knowing anyone's.

Hi Taz56,

Thanks for your reply. Your device doesn't recognize other voices because you activated the Voice Match feature. I previously sent you instructions on how to turn it off. Once you do, your device will recognize any voice.

However, if you prefer that your device only recognizes your voice and your daughter's voice, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Voice Match.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your daughter's voice.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Manuel

I turned it off, same thing, when I ask Google to do something it does, when my daughter does it tells her one or more devices are not set up.

As for your second suggestion, I only see "Teach your assistant your voice again" I do not see "adding another voice". So if I put hers in there then mine will not work correct?

Hi Taz56,

Thanks for your reply and for following the steps. I have a question: do you have other Google speakers, displays, or devices paired with the Google Home app?

I look forward to your response.

Manuel

Hi Taz56,

Thanks for your reply. When you have two or more devices linked, you can remove Voice Match for a specific device or for all devices. To remove Voice Match from a specific device, please visit Turn off Voice Match for a specific device.

If you prefer your Nest Hub recognize the voice of your daughter's voice, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Voice Match.
  3. The Google Home app will ask your daughter to repeat some sentences  to save her voice.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Manuel

I will try that.

Will adding her voice, remove my voice?

Hi Taz56,

Excellent! Let me know when you've tried if everything is okay. Responding to your question, the answer is no. Once you add your daughter's voice, it won't remove your voice.

Manuel
