Google home failed to connect, factory reset performed, now won't configure. Not one, but three!

One of my google home mini's was failing to respond. After some troubleshooting I tried a factory reset. Afterwards I followed the procedure to reinstall the Google Home, which went fine until the point where the Google home tries to log on to the WIFI. At this point the process failed.

Since then I have had the same happen to another google home mini and a google home! Stupidly I did a factory reset on both of them simultaneously before I realised I had a common problem.

I now have three unusable google homes, but another four are working perfectly on the same system.

I'm wondering if they need a software update, but I can't find any instruction on updating software through USB. Is this possible?

When you try to add your Mini from the Home App can you see your WiFi? If not are you close to your router (< 4m) when you perform the set up?

I was aware of this issue. The last time I tried, the Mini was 1M away from my phone and about 10cm away from the router.

This is something I have already tried. My phone links to the Google Home hotspot without any difficulties. The fault occurs when the phone releases the Home to log on to the router.

Hi Tractorist,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

If you’re using an iOS device, don’t forget to enable Bluetooth, disable cellular data, enable local network access by going to your phone’s settings > privacy > local network > enable Google Home.

Also, to eliminate network issues, please try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Home/Nest devices). Once done, check if your device will have the same behavior.

Thanks for helping  LokePus and  RachelGomez123.

Best,

Dan
