Google home not differentiating voices

Toddandersonmam
Community Member

So we are a family of 4. I have had several issues so I will probably have several posts to address them individually.  First and most frustrating is that we have 5 (used to be 6) minis throughout our home.  2 adults, 1 teenager, and one child and if I leave my Spotify account linked to my google assistant, any time anyone in the house asks Google to play music it will automatically pull from whomever's Spotify is linked.  An example is that at one point each of us had our own email addresses.  Each email address had its own Spotify linked to it directly.  We had set each person's voice to their OWN Gmail account and Google Assistant.  However, when anyone other than me would play a song, it would act as if I was requesting the song and connect to MY Spotify.  Once I unlinked MY Spotify, it would then automatically pull from dad's Spotify. Then it would pull from our youngest son's Spotify.  To the point, I had to unlink it.  However, it does the same with calendars and such as well.  Therefore it almost becomes null and void for other members of the house as Google is supposed to differentiate between voices.

 Hi Toddandersonmam,

Thanks for reaching out.

We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing that right now with your Google Nest devices. Let's go ahead and sort things out by answering these questions.

  • Do you use a family premium account on Spotify?
  • If yes, are their personal accounts linked to it?
  • Are all family members set up under the same Home structure?

After all these things are checked, I would advise resetting the Google Nest devices and set it up again. Making sure that all the home members are set up on the same home structure, connected to the same Wi-Fi network and most of all has their own account to link their voice with.

Manage home members

To let other people, like family members or roommates, use the devices in your home, add them as home members.

Only invite people you trust to become home members. When someone becomes a member of a home, the following info and settings are shared with them:

Full access and control of devices and services

  • Add and remove other home members, including you
  • Add new devices, like speakers, displays, or smart light bulbs
  • Use and change the settings of the devices in the home
  • Automatically link their media services, like YouTube, to speakers, smart displays, and Chromecast built-in devices in the home

Home activity

  • View activities and events from all devices and services linked to the home

Contact information and home address

  • Change the address of the home
  • View the names and email addresses of everyone in the home

Assistant features

  • Set up personal results, Voice Match and Face Match on existing and new Assistant-supported devices

Note: Only the primary user of a Pixel Tablet can set up Voice Match and personal results.

You can't invite anyone using a:

  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) account
  • Google Account for children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country)

Note: Learn how to let your child use Google Assistant on your devices.

A maximum of 6 people can share a home.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Princess
