Google home only playing clean music

I recently started using my google home after not using it for over a year. I had to reset it to get it to connect my devices but all was well, OR so i thought. I started playing music and realized whatever i said, no matter how I asked, it would only play clean versions of some artist like sza. I’ve checked my digital settings but still wont play the explicit version. I’ve already checked my Apple Music settings and nothing there either.

Hi Kedmun20,

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry for the inconvenience you're having with playing explicit music.

It seems like content restrictions are activated, preventing you from playing explicit music. To deactivate content restrictions, follow this link: Restricted content on your Google Nest speakers and displays. This page will guide you through the process. These restrictions might get activated by default after a device restarts.

Keep me updated on how it goes.

Best Regards,

Jonathan

I’ve already tried changing the filters and deactivating it all together and still had the same issue.

Hi Kedmun20,

Thanks for the information. Sorry to hear the previous information didn't work. Can you tell what type of Display you have? What music platform are you using? Is the problem with other music platforms or with a specific one?

Here are some additional tips:

  • Specify Explicit Version: When requesting a song, try explicitly asking for the "explicit version" or the "album version." Sometimes, adding these details can nudge Google Home towards the uncensored version (if available).
  • Voice Match: If you have multiple users on your Google Home, ensure you've set up Voice Match. This personalizes settings for each user, potentially explaining why someone else's filter settings might be affecting your experience.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Jonathan
