I found my google hub yesterday displaying a grey screen with white g and not progressing beyond this state yesterday.
after research I attempted multiple times to restart the unit buy holding volume down when plugging it in, then factory reset by holding both volume up and down during the 10 sec. count. It always reboots to the grey screen and stops.
can someone please help.

Oh thank God, I thought I was the only one. Happened yesterday at night after changing rooms (unplugging and replugging)
But tbh, I don't think Google will help. We're screwed.
All google thinks will help is:
Assure that both the best hub and it's power cable is legit
Try plugging it in somewhere else even though it turns on and is functionalish
And some other person said to turn off the router when you turn on the Nest. Not sure how that will help.

I have the same problem and it is very similar to one I experienced several months ago. I took that up with Google who did not initially seem very interested but I eventually got put through to the technical team. Their answer, after a few days, was that there was a bug in the system following an update. Eventually it sorted itself and had been quite good until this week. I suspect another update bug and will be taking up again with Google. However it seems that their technology or something is not reliable and I have been using an alternative much more recently.
