Google hubs stopped playing youtube

Jo7

Since yesterday none of my 3 Google hubs will play you tube music when asked directly. This seems to be impacting any that have a screen.

It won't connect via the casting option either.

It just black screens and then times out.

It seems to be fine for other media

Exact same issue with a Home Max (speaker, no screen). It gives the correct response as though it's going to play, but then no sound.

Podcasts/streaming radio working fine on the Max, Youtube Music working fine on my phone/minis/Nest Hub (small version), but Youtube Music on the Max doesn't work.

I am having the exact same problem. Has anyone managed to sort it out, I've rebooted numerous times and nothing changes

I am having same issue since today

Same issue here. I can only imagine the collective time being wasted by people trying to troubleshoot this when it's clearly a Google issue.

I am having exact same problem with my 2nd gen Nest Mini since this morning. Have rebooted several times, and still the same...

Me: "Hey Google, play Black Friday by Megadeth"

Google "Good Mourning, Black Friday by Megadeth, sure, playing on YouTube Music"

...approximately thirty seconds of silence... tumbleweeds blow by... cricket's chirp...

Google: "Sorry, something went wrong, when you're ready give it another try"

Me: Mucho 😞

Have another Nest Mini (also 2nd gen) device at home, and that one streams music with no problem! Go figure!

There have been some updates so I think it has broke the link. Mine worked on one device and then when I tried it again it failed. Nothing seems to fix it.

Have had to Bluetooth my phone to the speaker to avoid the deadly silence. Casting won't work either. Not sure how we get anyone in Google's attention.

If they don't fix will be looking at Alexa or other alternatives in the black Friday deals.

Did a factory reset of my Nest Mini, reconnected to Google Home and did a hard reset for 2 minutes... and still the problem exists!

Paging: @Cathal_S and @Azarco who kindly assisted with another fault/query I had! If you can help please, would be very appreciated 🙂

Ahhh, it's finally working! Did a 2 minute hard reset, completely disconnected power and now it's streaming music again! Hallelujah!

So what worked for me with my 2nd Gen Mini

  1. Factory reset - Slide mic button to off, hold finger on top of Mini for ~10 secs, until voice confirms doing a factory reset
  2. Re-linked to my Google Home account
  3. Hard reboot - disconnect from mains for ~2 mins

Seems to have started working again now on nest display

Mine has just started working. Must have been an issue Google or YouTube issue. I haven't done anything and it's just fixed itself.

Mine too, probably a bug in an update

Hello Dave_W,

I wanted to confirm, when you said "same here", does this mean your concern about YouTube is also resolved just like the others?

I'll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Dan
