Google mini is losing the ability to understand

Lately things that my Google mini used to understand consistently, it no longer understands. Two examples:

1. It cannot understand any variation of "Play KSWS" or "Play the radio station KSWS".  I also got a friend of mine to try and she similarly used to be able to play this station, but no longer can.  The radio station still exists.  

2.  Google mini refuses to play the podcast "First This" even though it is one I have subscribed to in my Google podcast app.  Instead annoyingly it consistently plays "Up First".   Don't make substitutions.  Just find the right podcast which it should know exists. 

What is going on that ability of Google minis to  to understand is degrading.

I am having an issue with mine slowly becoming useless as well. There’s a high likelihood they’re doing this on purpose, to push newer models. That, or maybe it was built cheaply and the hardware is slowly degrading. Either way I wish they cared, but they don’t. They definitely just want us to buy a newer more expensive model.

Sorry to hear about this. Let's go ahead and figure this out by answering these questions:

 

  • How far is your Google Home Mini from the router?
  • Are there other Google speakers set up in your home that shows the same behavior?
  • Does it happen on all the commands you ask? 

Let's try first to perform a complete reset to your Google Home Mini, set it up and as soon as you're done setting it up, monitor it's behavior so we can see if resetting the device helped.
