Google nest audio - can't get the device to reset.

I've been using the Google nest audio for several years, until yesterday when I switched to a new internet ISP.  I went looking for answers on how to get the nest audio to use the new network and came to the conclusion that a hard reset was the only way (horrible design G).  After several failed attempts, I finally got the front lights to turn orange, found the mystery button spot (accidentally, probably) and got the confirmation that a reset had happened.

After rebooting, the nest audio would not enter setup, would not respond to "hey Google", and was totally unresponsive.  Since it was unresponsive, the mystery button and orange light routine was not working.  I then found the "reset this thing 11 times" method.  After my initial fits of laughter and my comments to no one in particular of "are you serious?",  I did the ridiculous 11x reset.  The lights come on (2, then 4, then "lights in motion", then blank).  No positive results in the 8-10 times I've attempted this in total.

My main question is: is there a realistic (no searching for the mystery G spot) method to reset this thing, or do I own a brick?

Also, could you please please please run these design decisions past average users before releasing them to the public? The idea of form over function needs to silently go away.

Thanks in advance.

Greg

An interesting new development. I disconnected the power for slightly over 1 hour and when I powered it up again, it acted like a new device. I was able to get it all set up. I hope this answer helps someone else.
