Google nest hub - cannot add music alarm or media alarm (not supported yet)?

EINSTN
Community Member

I have just purchased and set up a google nest hub (1st gen, model GA-00516-AU) and it wont allow me to set a music alarm or media alarm. When I use the "set music alarm" or "set media alarm" command I get back "SORRY, I CANT TO THAT ON THIS DEVICE YET"

Software version: 35.34.10.374969784
Cast firmware version: 1.52.272481
Operating system Version:  1.20210119.2.1390079

Why is this not possible? Surely this is possible. This is a simple basic feature?! Please help!

Hello EINSTN,

Thank you for reaching out. I am sorry to hear that your new Google Nest Hub (1st gen) is not creating a music or media alarm. I understand the importance of alarms, so let's get this issue resolved! First, I have some quick questions.

  • Is this a new issue? Was your device able to set a media alarm before?
  • Which country are you located in?
  • Do you have your preferred media set as a default/connected in the Google Home app?
  • What commands are you using?
    • Examples:

"Set <radio station> radio alarm for 6 AM tomorrow."
"Set <song or artist> music alarm for 7 AM Monday."

"Set <song or artist> music alarm for 7 AM every day."

  • What happens when you set a media alarm?

  • Which media are you trying to link your alarm to? (Ex: Spotify, TuneIn, Pandora, etc.)

  • Do other voice commands work besides this issue?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

Thank you for your patience, I look forward to your response!

Thanks for the (belated) reply.

No this is not a new issue. It has not worked from new (about a month ago when I purchased the unit).

I am located in New Zealand.

Yes preferred media set.

I have used all the published commands such as "set media alarm" and "set music alarm". Each time I get the response that this can't be done.

After not hearing back here I posted on reddit and someone gave me a work around. If I change the Google assistant language to English USA instead of my actual English New Zealand then it enables the music alarm feature. So it seems that Google assistant needs to enable this for new zealand. Hard to believe it's not enabled already!

Still having the issue.

Nest mini say "sure, will do"
Nest Hub says "Can't do that on this  device yet"

Issue still present when language set to English UK

Hi Jake, yes this is still an issue.

Yes issue still persists. I can't set it to English nz or English aus. Only us. It must be a language setting that needs to be turned on at Google or something!

Hey all,

I apologize for the delayed reply once again. I have looked further into the issue, and what may be the cause. At this time, the media alarm is only supported in the U.S. I understand that some of you may live outside the U.S. If that is the case, I would recommend sending feedback to our Team. If you are in the supported region and still experiencing issues, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jake

Then why does it work with my nest mini (located in france, too. )

This thread is for the nest hub (the screen), not the nest speakers

I think what he said is that this is strange that the same feature in the same ecosystem get different treatment on two devices that are nearly the same except one get a screen slapped on it. Since everything technical seems to be already present, it should work the same, and yet it does not.

I believe the nest hubs are now running fuchsia OS, I don't think the minis are.

It seems wrong to release features to one language firmware. Especially features which aren't voice related.

Regarding fuschia is I believe it is only to 1st gen nest hub.

But yeah it seems wrong, especially when the device can already set alarms, okay Spotify and trigger Spotify with actions.

She 😉

And yep, my point, exactly. Everything seam coded except for maybe a few localization strings in the UI. That's stupid !

Hi, I face the same issue in France, It works when I set my assistant in US language but not in French.

Bump!

Nest Hub (2nd gen) if you say "set media alarm for 8AM weekdays" the hub will advise it cannot do that yet.
other alarm types work fine being set vocally, media is not an option when setting the alarm through the GUI.

Spotify is linked to my home account and can play through the home hub.

System firmware version:276689
Cast firmware: 1.56.276689

I found a workaround that should show where the bug lies, in the home app on my phone i can set the language to English US and it will work.

I am in the UK so have to set it back after, likely the library of responses or what it can understand has not been replicated to the other language packs.

please advise the bug reference when raised.

It turns out this does not work either, I have a home hub 2.  If you set it to the American language and then set a media alarm. It will set the alarm and look like it should go off. However in the morning it will just play a normal alarm.

Having the same issue here with my new nest hub.

That pretty much THE feature I bought the hub for, so it's extremely frustrating

Having the same issue with my Nest Hub 1st Gen that I got for my kid. My 2nd Gen works just fine but can't seem to figure out why the 1st Gen doesn't work.

I am extremely disappointed. I just bought a smart speaker for this sole purpose. How come it can't do that, and why do you sell it in countries where it can't without any warning? Is this a joke?

My language is set to US English on all my devices but it still doesn’t work.

Can someone point me to a source which google assistant features are available in what country? I only found this https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7071598?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid#zippy=%2Cmedi..., which says nothing about country restrictions:

You can set your favorite music as an alarm. Select a song, artist, genre or playlist from your default music service in the Google Home app. If you have a premium account with your default music service, you can also use the premium options the service offers.

Note: This feature is currently available in English, French (France and Canada), German, Japanese and Spanish on all Google Nest and Home speakers and displays.

But then i'm in French (france), and no dice.

I also have exactly the same issue. Language set to English UK. You can only set alarms with the limited, and not very good, preset alarm tones.

Very annoying that such a basic feature is missing.
