Google nest mini listens but doesn’t respond

Tomaaaaas

My Nest mini was giving me the 2 dot thing so I did a reset and it seemed to be working fine, connected to WiFi, I was playing music on my Spotify, until I asked it what time it was. After saying “ok Google” the music lowered, as it listened, I asked the time, and no response. The music came back up. I tried several times and got the same results. Tried rebooting it through the app, unplugging and plugging it back in, recalibrated my voice recognition, and still the same result. It listens and recognizes my voice when I say “ok Google”, but then it ignores me like I’m not even here!

please help.

Hi Tomaaaaas,

This is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you and thank you for doing the troubleshooting steps. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Have you tried giving commands without music playing in the background?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Once done, give a question or command in a different way and confirm if your Nest Mini recognized the question correctly by saying “repeat the question”.

Furthermore, you can check the audio recording in “My Activity”. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the upper-right, tap the account icon.
  3. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon > choose another account or Add another account.
  4. Select My Activity.
Note: This opens a list of all recent voice commands the customer has given.
  5. Identify the most recent command that generated a failed response.
  6. Select Details below their Assistant Query (this will expand out the details).
  7. Tap the Play button on the query card (have them play a few) to confirm from My Activity what the speaker or display heard at the time the issue occurred.

Tell us how it goes.

Best,

Dan
