Google nest mini no lights (no power)

MarkyMark1970

Good afternoon all, not sure if I have set this up correctly.

after a couple of months of not using my google nest mini (2nd Gen) today I switched on again.

everything was fine for about 1 min then everything went off, sound, lights the lot.

now when plugged in I have nothing, like power is not getting to device.

is there a reset for this or just go buy a new one?

thank you

Hello @MarkyMark1970,

I'm sorry you are experiencing issues with your Google Nest Mini (2nd Gen). You can try resetting your Google Nest Mini (2nd Gen) by following the steps listed here.

Hopefully this would help resolve your issue.

Thank you for the reply but I don’t even get the lights to turn orange as mentioned in reset.
I have no power going to it whatsoever, but the strange thing was I was listening to it then it went dead and now won’t activate.

maybe I just buy a new one

Hello @MarkyMark1970,

Thanks for the update. Could you try the following troubleshooting steps?

  1. At the side of the Google Nest Mini, unplug the power cord and wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in and wait until the four LED lights light up on top.
  2. Repeat step one, 10 more times. (complete total of 11 times)
  3. After plugging in the power cord back in the final time, wait a few moments for the device to reset. It should announce "Welcome to Google Home" to signify that it's ready for setup.

Please let me know if this helps resolve the issue. I look forward to your response.

I have the same problem with my Nest mini 2. It turned off and didn't come back again. I tried unplogiging the power cord for 10 seconds and plugining it again, but it didn't work. light are all off. I thought there might be something wrong with the cable and I repeated the procedure with the cable of a working nest mini 2 but no improvement at all.

That’s it same as mine no lights on at all. Just as if no power going into device. I tried different cable no use either. Looks like buy a new one 😞

For me there is a small red light (different from the 4 main lights) to the left if youre looking at it with the power cord on the bottom but no response otherwise

Same problem. This problem started from the day 1 itself. Configured nest and while playing a music it suddenly stopped then no sound, no lights. Tried switching on and off the power for many times. It behave as if no power is going to the device.

I tested the power adaptor with multimeter it giving around 13.5 to 14 volts so no problem with it.

The strange part is when I use it after some long hours like 4 or 5 hrs it will light up and work as usual but high chance it will go back to old faulty state again.

Adaptor is rated 14.1 volts. Is this issue due to slight drop in voltage as multi meter reads value less than 14 volts around .5 to 1 volts drop.

This is happening to me too. Any troubleshooting? It literally has no light or whatsoever.

Try rebooting the wifi router. If no light then no use switching on and off continuously. Use the device after a day. Both adaptor and device should remain unplugged. Sometimes it work. If lights start to appear then factory reset by switching off the mic button and press on the central light button continuosly till factory reset music appear.

Hi Guys thank you all for the messages

I have tried all the tasks as recommended, but nothing, still a dead brick

Now in bin and new one bought in Jan Sales

Hopefully will last a little longer

Thank you Mark

How long has it been since you bought your new one? And do you unplug it everytime you're not using it?

This issue is occuring to brand new device. Seller is not accepting return even though it's less than 7 days and telling to contact google service center. Even though it have 1 year warranty no one knows how to claim it. They telling repair supported in only few countries. So what's the use of warranty. Google should stop selling devices if there is no provision to claim warranty or repair.

I never thought Google after sales was so pathetic.

same with me.. opened the box which i have bought from flopkart. not powering the device. waste of money and no return policy also as it suggest to contact google and google is sleeping. i have 2 amazon products echo and dot.. till today no issues and running very smoothly. pathetic google nest.

Hi,

Contact flipkart customer service through their chat and inform the problem. Tell them that it's brand new and not able to find service center to claim warranty. They might replace the product if it's under 7 days. Even if it's passed few days more like under 15 days they might accept return so do it quickly. Return process is hard. They sent technician to check it's working or not. Then when it's approved they sent replaced item. Mine got replaced like this and the new one is working perfectly with no problem.

I wasted few days as return is not accepting by going through the product return page. Then one day tried contacting them through the chat system and luckily they agreed to replace it.

No use of trying to troubleshoot as it's a hardware problem.

Can you updates us if this happens again to you, thanks!

Hey Banana,

I am sorry to hear you are still running into the issue. I would recommend trying a factory reset on the device. If that does not resolve the issue, please let me know. I would like to review further and ensure you are good to go.

Best regards,

Jake

I have tried every form of reset the internet has suggested. It did not make a difference. The forum on reddit also had a bunch of people reporting the same issues and the general consensus is that the nest somehow got bricked

I have the exact same problem and unfortunately, I am living in Ecuador where they aren't cheap or easy to replace. I have 2 (Gen 1) Home Mini's and they have both gone down with the same problem. Neither show lights on the top when powering up or seem capable of performing a factory reset. Has anyone managed to breathe life back into theirs? I've been looking all over the web but all I keep hearing is that it was due to a software update..any news or clues?

It sometimes power on after some long unplug session like 24 hrs or more. When it switch on it works perfectly like normal. Able to factory reset, configure all. But the problem is it won't last long. Within some 1 hr (maximum usually less than 30 minutes) it starts to blink 2 blue led lights (2 led light if mic off). It flash for dew seconds then all gone to fault mode then no lights no sound. No use of switch on off etc then if want to make it work again then need to unplug for 1 day or more and this cycle repeats.

Thanks Prince. I've unplugged both of them now and will see if I can get at least a light on it tomorrow. If this was due to an update surely they will send out a fix.

It's most likely some hardware complaint. The reason why I think so is even after factory reset this issue keep coming up. Also without even configuring wifi option in Google home app it goes into fault mode after some minutes.

Same for me. All the sudden is dead. I have disconnecting/reconnecting to multiple outlets. I tested the power cord with another device and cord is fine.

Any other suggestions ?

Get it replaced it's the only solution. Either from the seller or from Google.

The fix is:  Never... Never!!! NEVER!!! buy or pay for something Google labeled on it. Do you remember SpeackToit (assistant.ai) from api.ai (now called dialogflow)?? Ok, google bought it for destroy it and sell something totally useless like Google Assistant, so: all google collaborators and workers are bastards. Never ever buy Google nor Adobe. They are not tech companies, they are anti-tech.

I just lost power of my google nest mini 2nd gen too. It just it didn't work. It was totally working yesterday then when I shout "hey google" I got no response and when I checked its just gone like *poof* I tried different option like unplugging and re-plugging doing a power cycle with the mini but it seems that it's not working at all. And the assistants here are telling us to factory reset, how can you do a factory reset if your mini doesn't have a power? And if you're going to ask me where I am from. Your service of repair doesn't support in our country. So give us a solution then mate
