Google nest mini not able to set up

Max26

When trying to add the nest mini in the Google home app, the app and the speaker tell me the device needs to aber activated. The Google help suggests that I need a "device activator app". But the play store says my pixel 9 is not compatible with the app.

How can I get my Google nest mini working?

Hi @Max26,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you're getting the error message "The device needs to be activated" while setting up your Google Nest Mini in the Google Home app, and you cannot install the app needed on your Pixel 9 phone. I'm happy to help.

Since you're not getting the option to install the requested app from your Pixel 9 phone, have you tried setting up your Google Nest Mini from a different phone, such as an iPhone or Samsung phone, to complete the device setup?

Please keep me posted.

Regards,

Anders

Yes, this worked. But it is a bit counter intuitive, if both devices (phone, Nest speaker) are from the same company but are not usable for setup together. I would expect the opposite.

Hi @Max26,

Thank you for your reply confirming you were able to set up your Google Nest Mini device by using a different phone.

It sounds confusing setting up your Google Nest Mini device with a non-Pixel device, especially since, as you mentioned, both Google Nest speakers and Pixel phones are part of the Google ecosystem. We're always looking for ways to improve, and we appreciate your feedback to continue improving our products and meeting your needs.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Anders
