Google speaker plays one song then stops when asked to play a channel from SiriusXM

slashinpdx

"Hey Google, listen to BPM Discovery from SiriusXM".  Plays the correct channel on the current speaker, but stops at the end of the song.

"Hey Google, resume".  - Nothing is playing...

This started a few days ago.

If I specify the channel by number, it works correctly:  "Hey Google, listen to channel 341 from SiriusXM".  Or, if the channel has a number and you specify it by name: "Hey Google, listen to Utopia from SiriusXM" it also works correctly.  This only happens when the channel doesn't have a number.  If it shows "SXM APP" on the channel lineup, it plays one song then stops.  Sirius XM Channel List 2022 [with Channel Numbers] (ytechb.com)

ARe any of you getting anywhere?  I have now been asked by Teddy to send feedback

Open the google hoem app

at the topright, tap the account icon.

tap feedback and then tap the device to submit feedback for

to display available emails, in the From section, tap the arror on the right, select the email

In the feedback summary, write a brief description of the issue

be sure to check the box for screenshot and system logs

to submit feedack, at the top right, tap send.

Why do we have to tell them the issue again and again.

This is very frustrating, all they are is wearing us down so we give up

This is all pointless.  I just connect my phone to my speaker home group and use the app from there and it all works.  Actually have an old phone connected to wireless and I'm set from a playing standpoint, but the extra effort is not ideal.

I can't cast that function does not work for me on the xtra channels so the only way i can play those channels on google speakers is via Bluetooth which not ideal at all as i too have speaker groups which you can not do using bluetooth

Patrick8

I have been telling them that the CAST function doesn't work with the Xtra channels, in addition to the fact that Google assistant only plays one Xtra channel song, then stops. I'm sure that those two things are related, which should clue them in on what the issue is.

Ive been asked the same thing so i went thru all that BS and the teddy sends me another email and told me to do a oral command usinf the channel number. So That tells you they are listening. I responded and told him AGAIN the channel numbers are fine it's the xtra channels. Haven't heard back from him.  Do you think Teddy is Real person or is this AI

Everyone should do themselves a favor and just forget about it.
Simple answer… Switch to Alexa. A lot more stable and awesome customer service if and when needed. No forums or messaging, you speak to an actual person,

It was hard for me, but I am 95% glad I switched to Alexa devices. The SiriusXM issue is completely solved. Quicker overall, answers all questions in a better way, understands my commands. The main issue I'm having right now is, in a speaker group, I have an older Echo Dot connected to my Vizio soundbar via 1/8" cable and there is an audio lag that I can't seem to correct.

Alexa equipment responds extremely well with other Alexa speakers. They also work extremely well with Sonos which is what I have. No need to hardwire..

I'm going through same steps with Teddy. He did clarify a step in instructions and I did the same goofy automation start. No difference for me

I did ask last time if google could talk directly with XM. Developer to developer would cut out at least two middle men/translation of issue points.

At least they are doing something.  My expectations are low, but I'm hopeful

I have not been contacted by any one since sending in my form.  You might want to tell Teddy this.  All Xtra channels have a channel number.  Sometimes Sirius shows the channel number, other times not. But they have one.  Xtra channels start at channel 1001. (There is no channel 999 or channel 1000,  from what I remember.  )   That's where the break occurs. I've been wondering if it's just Google can't handle a 4 digit channel number. 998 and below streams correctly. 1001 and higher does not.

Thanks for the info because i do not see any channel numbers.

Same exact issue here on all my google home devices

I have had the exact same issue for well over a year now. I have called in and that is like talking to a wall as the people they have on customer service overseas now, have no comprehension of what Satellite radio even is, let alone how the app is supposed to work. Then I wrote in and got a specialist from the executive office, and she was unaware entirely this was an issue, and it took about 10 days for her to reply and say the issue was being worked on finally, as no one new about it apparently, and this was in September. I finally got a recent reply saying work is ongoing. So who knows. Crazy this issue could exist the way it does for so long.

I have been in contact with the Google support team for the past week. So hopefully something finally comes of this.

I've gone through a few rounds of "troubleshooting", which are variations of deleting apps (Google Home, Sirius XM), unlinking from Sirius XM, rebooting routers, rebooting devices, setting up an automation routine, etc. with no success.  I've submitted crash reports and described in detail what's happening.  This AM they sent a note saying the issue was on the Sirius XM side and were closing my help ticket.  I've already talked with Sirius XM and they point to google.

I noted my frustration because I've gone down that path with no resolution and my issue is still unresolved.  They asked which stations I'm having problems with again.  It's like they haven't read case notes at all.  I can find creative ways to tell someone to reboot and call back, but there's an obvious issue with streaming Xtra channels that nobody seems to want to resolve.

I find it frustrating they can't talk to Sirius and get a subscription, then log onto one of their own devices and troubleshoot.  That would be much quicker than having each individual do on their own and report back.  Or maybe, get on the phone with Sirius XM and work this issue together.

This is an "extra channels" problem only.   All of the standard XM channels work fine.  I agree with the poster that stated that this either has something to do with the type of paid subscription you have or it is just Sirius XM has an interface problem (or just limiting) with the "streaming only" stations and smart speakers.  I say this because the special "streaming only" stations work fine on my phone and play for hours (even when connected to a bluetooth speaker).  So it has to be the interface between streaming only stations and smart speakers.  Regardless, the "engineers"/smart people at Sirius and/or Google should be able to fix this - or at least be able to diagnose it better than their customers!   I'm no computer engineer but I would think it is not a very hard problem to fix (maybe a few lines of code?).  At the very least, one of the companies should acknowledge the problem and the source of it instead of pointing fingers and telling everyone to reboot and spend unnecessary time to re-set up our entire smart speaker system.  Annoying.

*sigh* this has been ongoing for months. @Juni @Dan can’t you please - PLEASE - for the love of all things money - do something other than tell us to reboot/reinstall/defleft. Please. We come here because we need help, and for literally 6+ months, there has been no help. Call Sirius. Setup a zoom between google and SiriusXM. Just please, DO SOMETHING. find a solution. This used to work and it no longer does. Thus, something has changed and we the paying customers are not privy to what that could be. Community management isn’t popping in every few weeks and telling everyone to reboot and take notes on firmware etc. it’s to help (as someone “from” this community) find a solution. Please. Help.

Vitamin, it has been about 6 months since I renewed this thread. Apparently, the problem is not with Google or Amazon, but is casued by SXM. When I talked to elevated support people at SXM they said that Google and Amazon users are reporting the problem. Then they blew me off. I looks to me like SXM decided to cancel this option for its subscribers, but don't want to tell their customers. Google has been responsive, whereas SXM doesn't have a message board or honest customer support.

Wosborn;  It may be that Both Amazon and Google had difficulties with the Xtra Channels.  But I VERY recently have bought an Amazon display, and an Amazon speaker, both of which play the Xtra channels continously, so I do not believe that SXM cancelled the option for its subscribers.  It seems though that Amazon worked to fix their problem, while Google has  just pointed fingers.

Having read through this whole thread I see I am late to the party but still chiming in to share I am having the same problem here. I let my SiriusXM subscription lapse several months ago. Renewed this week and am experiencing the issue of extra channels only playing one song. It is the case on my Google Home device and two minis. I do not have the SiriusXM app on my phone and simply use voice command to start up the channels.  Given the last many months of posts I've just read through, I don't have high hopes that the issue will ever be resolved, but I will cross my fingers nonetheless and offer big thanks to everyone who has gone through so many troubleshooting hoops and filled out so many forms to try and get this resolved for themselves and everyone else!

Having the same issue for months. After reading through the replies here, I tend to agree that it's a Google issue caused by a change that SiriusXM made to the way XTRA channels stream. My theory (based on seeing a loading icon for each song when streamed on TV via SXM-Roku app) is that SXM XTRA channel music acts like successive streams for each song, rather than a single continuous stream like regular channels play. Google integration with SXM stream is now performing as though the stream ended, rather than picking up and continuing with the successive stream signal for the next song.

If Google is interested in fixing the SXM XTRA channel integration it might be good for an engineer to look at whether there is some continuation signal received after the end of each song, and connect again for the next song (until a stop action is received from user or timer, etc)

This is just a theory, and I could be flawed, but perhaps worth a Google engineer looking into.

Wow! Sounds like a great theory and one that should be explored!

I don't believe this is ever going to be fixed. The issue has persisted since spring 2023; it's been over seven months and Google hasn't provided so much as a single update with insight into the issue. All we've had are template posts from community VIPs asking to do standard troubleshooting like reboot, reset, relink, and the like. When that inevitably fails, we're asked to fill our a survey with all our information. I work in IT and that's the telltale sign for collecting info about a problem with a super low priority that you'll likely never even get to simply to placate the customer. It's strange because you'd think a billion dolar company like Google would have at least one employee with a SiriusXM subscription, or they could just, you know, get a free trial subscription going and debug the problem. It's most likely an endpoint or handshake or something relatively simple if Google could just set aside some time and some team members to properly diagnose it. I'm still fighting other ongoing issues with my Google Home speakers from years ago like my streaming randomly cutting out after several minutes so I'm not too hopeful that this will see any better results. As if all of that wasn't bad enough, SiriusXM just launched a brand new, completely revamped mobile app today and it seems to have completely broken Google Home/Nest devices. SiriusXM won't even stream on my Google Nest speakers at all anymore. I think it's time to pack it up and call it quits for the Google ecosystem.

I'm going on about five days so far and it's mostly back to normal. It's not quite 100% completely resolved as I do still experience some disconnects and cut outs, but it's usually upwards of two hours or longer whereas before it used to be about 30 seconds or every minute or two. I can deal with that as my workaround has been to create routines to kick off a SiriusXM stream every two hours. It seems they also fixed the Xtra channels too as it now streams past the first initial song.

Oh Crap!  I thought it was just me and my horrible internet.  I've been trying to stream to my Google Nest system this afternoon with no success! 😞

Sirius just launched a new SiriusXm app. I can now CAST an Xtra channel. (Not Bluetooth.).  Haven't been able to do that in months....  Not holding my breath.....

Just tried it today. Now Google won't play SiriusXm.....at all. Lovely.

Teddy (Google Nest Support) still has an active ticket for my issue and asking me various combinations to try.  The last one felt like a Tin Cup moment... put all my change in my left pocket. Tie my left shoe in a double knot.  Turn my hat around backwards.  Take a golf tee and stick it behind my left ear.  ...spoiler alert, that didn't work either.  /s

I let him know I cannot stream any Sirius XM station anymore.  I'm hoping now that it's totally broken it'll get the attention it deserves.  There appears to be good trouble shooting tips from users above, which appears to be more attention than Google has given this issue

FYI  There is a separate thread about Google Not connecting to Sirius XM  (Alexa is not affected). Apparently this started this morning (9 am EST) according to the other thread.  Metallic: My ticket is still open, but no one has gotten back to me weeks.

Interesting read. I have used SiriusXM for over 10 years and this Google Home (Group, multi speaker) to listen for over 3 years. Mine totally quit in the past week or so, one song, STOP.

It doesn't work at all. We have SXM in the car but not taking many winter road trips so both SXM need to get their act together on we'll drop SXM. I don't plan to go the Alexa route as I also have a lot saved on Youtube music to use on Google if need be, but have 5-10 SXM channels we like and hate to give that up.

I will also look for this one:  Google Not connecting to Sirius XM .   Thanks for all the info.

I'll reply to my own comment from 3 weeks ago, see if this goes through.

As of yesterday Jan 9 mine XM on Google home now works via audio commands using main channels, eg, Watercolors, RealJazz, Spa, Coffeehouse. I did 2 hours twice Jan 9 and it's been running ok for 3 hours just now.  Prior to that I was starting SiriusXM on a tablet or chromebook and casting it to a Home speaker and used some unlisted channels like for Christmas Jazz.

I'm optimistic it's fixed.

The Xtra channels do appear to be working now. Before they would stream one song then stop; I've been dealing with that crap since spring of last year. I ended up changing all my routines that called SiriusXM Xtra channels to just call the regular radio channels as they were the only ones that would stream past the first song, but I'm pleasantly surprised to find them working correctly now.

I just updated the app and i can now cast as well yahoo. It still only plays one song and stops it you use voice commands. At least we are moving forward and not having to use bluetooth!
