Google speaker plays one song then stops when asked to play a channel from SiriusXM

slashinpdx
Community Member

"Hey Google, listen to BPM Discovery from SiriusXM".  Plays the correct channel on the current speaker, but stops at the end of the song.

"Hey Google, resume".  - Nothing is playing...

This started a few days ago.

If I specify the channel by number, it works correctly:  "Hey Google, listen to channel 341 from SiriusXM".  Or, if the channel has a number and you specify it by name: "Hey Google, listen to Utopia from SiriusXM" it also works correctly.  This only happens when the channel doesn't have a number.  If it shows "SXM APP" on the channel lineup, it plays one song then stops.  Sirius XM Channel List 2022 [with Channel Numbers] (ytechb.com)

Addition information:  If I play any channel from the SiriusXM App on my phone, then cast it to the google home speakers in question, it works fine.  Plays continuously.  The issue only happens when attempting to play music by voice command.

Having same problem. Used to work fine with a sxm app channel, Classic Rock BBQ, but now only plays 1 song then stops.

Having same problem with Sirius XM extra channels. Only get 1 song. Channels with numbers seem to play continuously.

Hi folks,

@slashinpdx, @IdontknowJack, @PeggyLou, this is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Have you tried other radio stations and music services if it’s working via voice command?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

If the issue persists, unlink and relink your SiriusXM from Google Home. Replicate the issue and tell me the error message.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Dan:

Using minis, hub and hub max.
Issue started just over a week ago with no changes to hardware or system.
As to the "reset your speakers" suggestion, thanks, but that's the first thing anyone tries.
As to the "restart your phone" suggestion, I'm somewhat astonished you'd suggest it.  Please explain your reasoning.  The phone has nothing to do with the equation.  We're talking about voice command on the nest speaker devices.
As to your "relink SiriusXM" suggestion, sorry, but also tried that.

This is really just a way to let Google know that something they've done caused issues for their end users.  Not a request for assistance.

I've done all standard troubleshooting, rebooting devices (both in app and through unplugging and plugging back in), rebooting mobile phone, restarting both network modem and router, unlinking and relinking accounts, etc. Nothing has worked. The error message is gives me is very basic and simply says "voice commands are not yet available for that app." This is a regular Home speaker and two minis.

I'm with slashinpdx; this isn't really a request for assistance, but rather to inform Google they broke yet another thing on their Home/Nest devices because this was previously working functionality that has now suddenly stopped working, a very long and consistent history with Google Home devices I'm all too familiar with.

  1. Have the problem on Nest Minis (2) and a Nest Audio.
  2. Started seeing the problem about 1 week ago
  3. No hardware or software changes on our end
  4. Rebooting Nest devices does not help
  5. Other radio stations work fine on voice command, and numbered Sirius XM channels play continuously as they should on voice command

My Home speakers have been doing the same thing for a couple of weeks now. Upon voice command or starting a routine, it streams the first song the channel plays then stops. I noticed it seems to depend on whether the station is a car radio channel, i.e.: it has a dedicated number assigned by SiriusXM to listen to when inside a vehicle, or is a web radio stream, i.e.: does not have a dedicated number assigned. The stations that are web only seem to be affected and only play one song then stop, whereas the stations that are car channels continuously stream from song to song as expected.

Hello! I am seeing the same behavior with the extended web only channels that are a part of my SiriusXM subscription. Plays one song then stops. I have restarted the Nest Hub Max and reset my home network. I have also unlinked and re-linked my SiriusXM account in the Google Home App.

I have the same problem when playing "chillhop on SiriusXM" on my Google home Mini.  Neither hard reset or factory reset fixed the issue.

I love that station cillhop and have the same problem. Google needs to fix this as obviously they broke something for all of us to have this issue. This us really annoying

I have a hunch it's a Sirius problem, no pun intended, because it behaves same way on both a Google speaker and an Amazon Echo device. I checked the Sirius app settings and found nothing that fixed the issue.

It works fine for me on my Alexa but not on my Google Nest. My issue is only with the siriusxm channel classic rock bbq.

why are you doing it on email?  we are all having the exact same problem.  isnt the purpose of this forum to figure out solutions for everyone?

Hey Juni, you've been working on this for months. Specifically, what steps has Google taken to resolve this issue? Has Google contact SXM? Has Google decided to abandon customers on this issue? Will Google admit they have deleted this service for their customers?

Thanks,

Will

Not a Sirius xm issue, as it don’t have this issue with echo dot. Only with google

Same same. Come on Google - how about a reply?

I am having the same problem.
Xtra channels. Those without a number stop after 1 song when verbally asking Google to play the channel by name from SiriusXM.  I am using pretty much using every Google home device.  So not worth it to list them here.
I have rebooted everything.
I have re-linked SiriusXm to Google home.
Please help.  It’s not something your users have changed.

I'm having the same issue across several different nest devices as well.

I am having the same problem with my Google Home as well.  Only happens on Google home, my Alexa will play continuously.  May be the solution since I see Google has stopped responding.

While I don't use Google Home, I do use Alexa, and the same thing is happening on my Echo Dot, Echo Show, and Alexa app on my phone.  Because this same issue is happening on both Google and Alexa, it strongly suggests that it is a Sirius problem.  If I use the Sirius app on my phone there is not issue and I get songs played one after another.

Note that the numbered Sirius channels are streams that play the same for everyone and the songs cannot be skipped, whereas the Xtra Channels (as well as the Pandora stations you can create if you have the Platinum subscription) are unique streams and you can skip songs if you like.  This type of stream seems to be the one having the issue.

I agre with you and i think it's a sirius problem especially now that this is happening to alexa devices as well. They really need to fix this

Wosborn

I called SXM and their suggestion was to reset Google Home, which completely wipes a lot of the setup. Don't do it - it didnt work.

Having the same issue with a Sirius XM xtra channel.

I got a trouble ticket started at Sirius XM and their return call phone support replied that many users are having this problem with Google Home and Amazon Alexa. They said they're working on it, but I wonder if this is really just a reduction in our paid-for service that they don't want to allow any more. Stay tuned.

I talked with sirius as well and they seem to think it's a google problem.  So who is the problem???

Wosborn
Community Member

They told me the same thing - nine months ago. They aren’t making g any effort - it’s reduced service

Wosborn
Community Member

I'm no software engineer, but if the problem occurs on Google and Amazon, its probably a SXM problem. The Sirius rep said they had calls from both sets of customers.

Same issue; following

Same issue after a month +.  It only seems to happen to “internet only” channels though and is doing the exact same thing in google or Alexa devices.  Believe there is an issue with Sirius and maybe not the smart home devices

SiriusXM has trimmed their services without notifying their customers. Shame on you SXM.

I just noticed one of my fav channels is missing, "Yacht Rock" is nowhere to be found.  I thought that it had been moved but downloaded an updated channel guide and it's not listed.
