Google speaker plays one song then stops when asked to play a channel from SiriusXM

slashinpdx

"Hey Google, listen to BPM Discovery from SiriusXM".  Plays the correct channel on the current speaker, but stops at the end of the song.

"Hey Google, resume".  - Nothing is playing...

This started a few days ago.

If I specify the channel by number, it works correctly:  "Hey Google, listen to channel 341 from SiriusXM".  Or, if the channel has a number and you specify it by name: "Hey Google, listen to Utopia from SiriusXM" it also works correctly.  This only happens when the channel doesn't have a number.  If it shows "SXM APP" on the channel lineup, it plays one song then stops.  Sirius XM Channel List 2022 [with Channel Numbers] (ytechb.com)

Just got my brand new Echo Show set up. I'm gonna do some side-by-side testing and decide if making the switch.

I can report that I just asked it to "play 80s Chillpill on SiriusXM for 30 minutes" and it got the request right AND is now playing the second song. Which means it is definitely a Google issue with the Sirius streaming channels.

First point goes to Alexa

Also, it seems like the audio on the Echo Show 3 is better than the audio on my Nest Home Hub, which I didn't expect.

This isn't looking good for Google

I just bought a whole bunch of speaker hoping to get a great speak group going and now I'm feeling like I may have just wasted my money.  Can't play SirusXM and, albeit a competing music service, can't play Amazon Music either.  Color me duped

I can't believe that this has gone on for months and nothing is being done about it.  This is so frustrating.  I'm strongly considering moving to Alexa.  I have Kasa smart bulbs and plugs and they work with both platforms so all I would need is new speakers which, I have a couple old generation google minis (they sound terrible anyway) and one google home speaker (which sound is okay) and google audio (sounds great) , google 2nd gen display (which is good) so I'd really only be sacrificing two speakers. With the holidays coming up, I'm sure they will be having sales on these items.

If you have Prime, you can get an Echo Pop right now for $15. It comes with a free month of Amazon Music and you have to cancel before they start charging you.

I'm testing a Show 5 right now and just ordered the Pop. Deciding whether to make the switch. I'll keep my thermostat and Nest Protects and possibly replace all the displays and speakers and the Nest Hello.

Sad but I think it needs to happen. It would take me awhile to list every way I'm ingrained in the Google ecosystem, but it's just getting bad and I'm tired of the only support being "reboot the device and reboot your router".

Thanks for the info on the speakers.  I too am fully ingrained in google ecosystem ( I have pixel phones as well) but google seems to just switch and pull the plug on things at random, it just feels like they are not fully committed to the user experience.

Totally agree. I have had every Pixel phone except 5 (got one and it was faulty), including the Nexus 6P.

Pixel phones, Pixel tablet, Pixel Watch, PixelBook, Chromebook, Chromecasts, Nest Minis, Nest Home Hubs, Home, Nest Protects, Nest Hello, Nest Thermostat, Gmail, Keep, Sheets, Docs, Drive, One, YouTube Music, and they are gonna make me switch. Unbelievable.

Hi Juni,

SXM tried to sell us this line several months ago. They removed the ability to forward their XTRA channels and don’t want to admit it to their customers.

I just switched all my Google devices over to Echo devices and it works fine on them. I have a routine that says to play 80s Chillpill on SiriusXM for 35 minutes. It has been flawless.

Hi,

How are you liking your Alexa speakers so far overall, meaning using them for other things like turning on/off lights etc. ?  I'm pondering if I should switch.  I'm so invested in the google system but maybe it's time to say good bye.

Thanks

So far, so good. Much faster at turning lights and switches on and off. Almost instantaneous. Haven't run into any questions that couldn't be answered or were answered incorrectly. Very quick to respond too. The jokes and games are fun. Liking the Halloween theme that's available. Some of the responses are done in a witch's voice. Really liking the Ring Video Doorbell too. We're suckers for silly ringtones and all that so having several choices for tones and being able to use, say, one of three Halloween tones whenever we want instead of the one that Google offers when they decide to offer it is nice.

One unexpected issue is music. We play a lot of music in our house and we love the multi room speakers. I knew that we would no longer be able to use YouTube Music on the Alexa speakers. I wasn't a huge fan of YouTube Music...LOVED Google Play Music, not so much YTM. However, we stayed with it due to the ad-free YouTube. My plan was to switch to Apple Music for the Alexa devices and switch to an ad-free YouTube plan with no music. Much to my surprise, Google doesn't offer just an ad-free YouTube plan which is yet another huge oversight on their part, in my opinion. We decided to learn to live with YouTube ads. So, instead of getting some money from us each month, they will now be getting no money from us. Anyway, Apple Music lacked a lot of features on Alexa, the biggest of which, for us, was no ability to tell Alexa to play one of your playlists. Evidently, the playlists had to be saved in the Apple Cloud which would then be an issue when other family members tried to play playlists. We are not an Apple household so not everyone has an Apple account. Also, you couldn't cast to speakers from Apple Music. We really missed that. I begrudgingly decided to go with Amazon Music, even after reading that it's not great. I've been pretty happy with it. Sound quality is much better than YTM and playlists and casting work very well.

One of the devices, an Echo Show 5, suddenly stopped showing the background I had chosen, was showing the time in two places simultaneously on the same screen, and would not go dark at night, lighting up the room while we were trying to sleep. I contacted support and they sent me a new unit. Before the new unit arrived, the issue went away and it's been working fine ever since. Must have been either a bad update or the fact that it is the furthest unit from my router...I have occasional wifi issues with a Nest Protect in the same room.

The only other "issue" I've had is when trying to create a reminder via typing in the Alexa app. I thought I could start using Alexa Reminders in place of Tasks in Google Calendar. I'm able to create it and choose to have it alert on my phone, but when the time arrives, Alexa says 'Sorry, I'm having trouble' and there is no reminder to be found. However, if I set a reminder by voice on one of the speakers, it works perfectly.

Alexa is not only a great ecosystem but they have awesome Customer Support if needed. Very easy to contact them and they are very knowledgeable.

Definitely my experience so far as well!

Good news folks /s; I called Sirius tech support (866) 635-0175  and they assured me this issue had been resolved last month (even though I demonstrated it wasn't working while on the call).  They pointed towards google as the issue and gave me a phone number to call (855) 971-9121.  That number no longer reaches tech support.

Maybe someone needs to post on X (Twitter) or something similar?  I don't have an account, but nothing is getting resolved from either side here

Resolved???  I tried contacting Google support; They eventually said it's not on their end. Now Sirius is saying it's resolved, but we're still having issues?

HI folks,

Thanks for the details you’ve shared, and sorry for the delay. Since there was a confirmation from Sirius, let’s try to factory reset your speakers and relink SiriusXM, then observe if it makes a difference. Check out the article below to learn more about it.

Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Juni

Thanks Juni. I think most of us tried the factory reset and Sirius re-link but nothing changed, I tried multiple times.

Juni, full factory reset and relink to Sirius XM.  Same issue - it will play one Xtra channel and stop.  Numbered channels stream just fine.

Will google please work proactively towards a solution?  Asking the community to "try this and try that" which hasn't worked is frustrating.  Blaming Sirius XM is deflecting the issue.  Both are advertised as working together, please figure it out!

Couldn't agree with you more. We have all done this a thousand times to no avail. This is very frustrating and not good customer sevice

Nothing has changed. Assistant will only play 1 Xtra channel, then stop.  Similarly, you cannot CAST an Xtra channel to a Google device. Regular channels work fine. Xtra channels lock up Google devices....

Thanks Juni. I am pretty sure we have all tried this and there is no change. I've tried it multiple times.

Yep, no change. 3 different devices, full resets, logged out and back in. Still only playing 1 song on extra channel

Hello, I have multiple devices. Here is the cast firmware: 2.57.375114 and 1.70.377722.

Also, I am having a similar issue when playing YT Music through a Home device - the same songs keep repeating when I ask it to play a song.

I have multiple. They all do the same thing.  Play only 1 song then stop.

My cast firmware numbers are the same that everyone else is submitting to you

I have multiple devices. They are either 2.57.375114 or 1.70.377722

So we've been instructed to try full reset.  Re link to XM.  Provide Firmware information.  Multiple folks have responded.

What's the status on resolution?  Is this actually being worked?  Or are we in the wait another two weeks and ask us to reset again - endless kick the can Do Loop?!?!

Has anyone gotten this to work yet?  I am working with a google CS and I have done everything asked of me and it still is not working.

I'm working with Teddy from the Google Nest Customer Care Team. I've answered questions via email and this is where things stood as of 10/30.

"I got your email. Allow me to check these details and I will get back to you as soon as possible. "

I am too. He had me uninstall sirius xm app and google home app. Reboot phone and all speakers. Then relink siriusxm account but do not install. Reinstall google app and the try it. None of that worked for me. Keep me posted on your experience.

I responded to your request to fill out the form.  I then received an email from Google with the following questions - like you don’t already know the issue.  These have already been answered dozens of times.

Here is the list of questions and actions I just received after filling out the form.

  • Which model does the customer have? (Google Home Mini, Google Home, Google Home Max, Google Home Hub, etc)
  • In what country is the customer from?
  • What Google Account are you signed into Google Home with?
  • What was the voice command you used to play the desired audio content?
  • What did Home play instead?
  • Which provider were you trying to play music from?
  • Which music provider have you configured in the Google Home app?
  • Does your mobile device and Google home share the same Google account?
  • What is the version of the Google Home app?
  • Who is your internet service provider?
  • Is this working before?
  • Is this issue only happening on SiriusXM?
  • What channel are you trying to play music on?
  • Are all channels affected?
  • Do you have other radio stations?
  • What is your device serial number?

On the other hand, unlink and relink your radio station to the Google Home app often fix this issue

To link or unlink a radio service:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app
  2. Tap the account.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account .
  4. Tap to close the account screen.
  5. Tap Settings .
  6. Under Services, tap Radio.
  7. Choose a radio service, then tap Ok.
  8. To link an account, sign in or sign up for the radio service. Follow the in-app steps.
  9. To unlink an account, tap Unlink Unlink account.

I am not going to go through all that again.  Either help us with new actions or just say you won’t.

I agree. I did and it didnt work. I rhink it's time to rethink my platform, alexa doesnt have this issue. M even thinking if switching from my pixel 5a to an iphone and i never thought i would say that. My husband has an iPhone and he nexer has sytem update issues, app closing in you etx.

FYI, I got the same questions, filled it all out, linked and unlinked (again) and referred Teddy to this thread. They should just get a speaker and a subscription to SiriusXM and try to stream an Xtra channel.

I got the same list of questions, which I've responded as you all have above.  They asked for a couple more steps, which I haven't done yet:

Sequential reboot:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your speakers and display
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone also helps.
  4. Make sure your mobile device or tablet and your speaker or display are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  5. Try to play music from your radio station.

I would like to know more about your device.

For your speaker:
Serial number (each)
Cast firmware

I agree; they should just talk with Sirius XM and get an account to test it out on a device where they can do their own troubleshooting.  Let the Google Techs talk to the Sirius XM techs and cut out the middle man!

Do you have enough people replying to your form, or do you want one more? I am having the same issues as the rest across 6 different Google devices...?
