Google tablet dock will not work with Nest speaker group

When adding my Nest speaker group in Google Home to a speaker group that contains the Google Tablet dock YouTube Music will hang. I have two different docks and problem persists with each. It did work when I first set it up, but no longer. Reset docks numerous times with no luck.

Hi @Spinnum

Couple of questions--

Have you tried deleting and recreating the groups?

Do you have other speakers or devices in the Group beside the tablet docks and do you have the tablets attached to each dock?

How are you requesting the group play? Voice or via cast button in YT Music?

Thanks-

Jill

Tried recreating the groups many times. It only hangs when I try to play (using YouTube Music) and cast to any speaker group containing the tablet (when docked) and Nest speakers. I have 2 Nest speakers that are grouped together for stereo sound. Plays fine when I just play to the speakers alone, as soon as I switch it hangs with what looks like a casting icon on the tablets screen.

Hi @Spinnum - thanks for the added info.

Does it work if the stereo pair is not part of the group? I'm wondering if the paired ones are being the problem for a group. I will need to check but I believe the stereo pair doesn't work with a group. The pair if separated will though.

Weird thing is, when I first setup the dock it worked fine, it was the next day everything went haywire. I'll try separating the pair to test.

Hi Spinnum,

Thanks for posting in the community!

So sorry to hear that the speaker group that contains 2 different Google Tablet docks are not working as you expected. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot this scenario:

  • Double-check that none of your speakers are listed under 'Local devices' in the Google Home app.
  • Try playing music through other streaming services like Spotify or Pandora within the speaker group. This will help determine if the issue is specific to YouTube Music.
  • If you haven't already, restart all the devices in the group and then recreate the speaker group.

Following these steps should help resolve this. If you continue to experience problems, let me know.

Best regards,

Nery.
