Hello,
I want to bring the hands-free hey google experience to my home network music. I dont want to have to have my phone or computer handy to place music.
I have the following hardwire on my home network
Google Max Speaker - Resides in Kitchen
Western Digital Mycloud ex2 Ultra.. its my Music server and runs plex and/or twonky .
Macbook book Pro - Intel.. Always on - resides in my home office
I would like to able to walk up to the speaker and say hey google, play Jazz from library. Then the software would look for the genre of Jazz on my music server and start playing jazz music.
I would also like to be able to hey google play Usher from library and it would locate all the artists Usher and start playing them on google max.
Is this possible? If so, please explain it to me?
Thank you

Not directly, since Google Max can’t search local Plex or Twonky libraries by voice.
You can link Plex to Google Assistant and say things like "Hey Google, ask Plex to play jazz," but this requires the Plex app and a linked account.
Another option is to use a Chromecast Audio or similar device to stream from your server, then control playback with Google Assistant.

Ok, I have a plex account.
Can you tell me how to link Plex to Google Assistant? The plex app runs on my NAS
I dont want to add additional hardware
Thank you

If you want to integrate your existing music library, you can try these options:
Plex Google Assistant integration
Set up your Plex Media Server on your My Cloud EX2 Ultra.
Use a Plex Pass subscription to enable voice control.
Link your Plex account to Google Assistant in the Google Home app (Settings Music).
Once linked, you can use commands like "Hey Google, ask Plex to play jazz" or "Hey Google, ask Plex to play Usher" to start playback on a Chromecast-enabled speaker.
Cast from your MacBook or Plex mobile app
Open Plex or another DLNA/UPnP app, select the speaker as the Cast target, and play your selected music.
This still requires a device to initiate playback but will stream directly to your speaker.
Upload to YouTube Music
Google allows up to 100,000 personal tracks to be uploaded for free to YouTube Music.
After uploading your jazz and Usher tracks, you can just say "Hey Google, play jazz" without extra setup.
At the moment, there’s no completely offline, local-library-only voice command integration without going through a supported service or Plex voice link.
