Home Application Not Responding

MrJinx
Community Member

Home application is not responding when the volume is changed per speaker or as a group. Also, the stop cast function is not working from the single speaker screen and group screen.

Have you tried rebooting the speaker and if that doesn't help do a full factory reset. Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays - Google Nest Help ?

MrJinx
Community Member

yes, i've rebooted all of my speakers several times.

no, I will not factory reset my speakers. I've done that too many times as it is.

my speaker group of 11 speakers worked yesterday and this morning without an issue. i don't know what google did today. this is their problem.

MrJinx

no, it did not

MrJinx

what's your experience with the speakers? how many speakers do you have? what types? which version of the Home App are you using?

thx

MsDrasby

I'm running Google Home APP version 2.62.80.2 on a Pixel phone.

I have 2 Google Home Minis, 1 Google Home and a pair of Nest Audio speakers. Plus I use a Google wifi router and point as part of my speaker system.

Tell me about your setup? What type of phone or device do you have the Google Home APP installed on?

MrJinx
Community Member

Your setup suits google simple environment.

i have 19 speakers.

10 Nest Audio

4 Nest Minis

3 Home

2 Home Minis

I used a google wifi router but outgrew it. I switched to the Nest Pro Mess. However, that didn't cast to all of my speakers. For its cost, the Nest Pro Mesh is garbage.

I'm on a TP-Link Deco AX3000 WiFi 6 Mesh System Deco X55 router. For a few days, things worked better. I could cast up to 12 speakers. Then 11.

This morning I've had more problems. Currently, I can broadcast to one speaker.

When was the last time you updated the Google Home APP?

i answered your questions. why don't you answer mine?

I'm multi-tasking and not on-line every minute of the day. Truly I'm sorry my replies aren't fast enough for you.

google's support is terrible. i'll never recommend their products. complete trash

MsDrasby

Theoretically, when it comes to beta testing there is no support. The person who is testing the beta product is responsible for figuring out glitches and reporting them.

unfortunately, i'm on the dog-food preview version. from my time using that version, the app is full of bugs.

MsDrasby
Community Member

I'm assuming you beta test?

MrJinx
Community Member

unfortunately, i am. i requested to be removed from the beta test and returned to previous version of the Home app. google told me I have to wait till the preview program is pushed.

MsDrasby

Unfortunately it sounds what you are experiencing is the downside of beta testing. Personally I don't suggest beta testing with one's own devices. Beta testing is all about finding the glitches and troubleshooting the issue before the product goes out to the entire public.

MrJinx

I completely agree. Hindsight being 20/20, I would never sign up for beta testing again. That being said, removing the beta app should not require a pint of blood.

MsDrasby

Sadly it legally depends on the wording of the Beta agreement you signed with Google. Did you read the agreement or were you just anxious to sign up with the data and explore something new?

After many hours of frustration, my conclusion is the goggle home app is trash and should not be used with more than five speakers. Complete garbage. Them and their programs are a waste

MsDrasby
Community Member

Well, do you really think the average consumer would be using more than a handful of speakers with the Google home app?

MrJinx
Community Member

i have pretty big hands.

if that's the case, google should tell you there's a limit their nest process can handle.

that being said, at times, like now, I'm playing on four speakers. still, drops and disconnection issues. so there. fool

MsDrasby

I'm glad to see you are doing further troubleshooting and discovered that the amount of speakers doesn't matter. Perhaps this helped localize the issue to being either the device or the Google Home APP. After resetting the Google Home APP did you clear the cache and restart the device?

MrJinx
Community Member

you are incorrect. the amount of speakers does completely matter. to the best of my knowledge, up to four or five speakers work well, sometimes. lately, i don't know what is wrong with the system. speaker groups do not work. stereo pairing is not working. the home app is inconsistent. and i cant get rid of the preview app.

yes, i've reset my speakers several times. i've un-installed the Home app several times. yes, i've re-started my device several times.

you guys dont offer solutions. you just regurgitate the same bad advice. what is wrong with your bad support? you are incompetent.

Did you try clearing the cache for Google Home and Assistant on the Android device?

  1. Open Android Settings APP
  2. Scroll down and tap APPS
  3. You may need to scroll down and tap see all
  4. First tap the Assistant APP
  5. Tap Storage and Cache
  6. Tap Clear Cache
  7. Now repeat the above steps this time with the Google Home APP

MrJinx
Community Member

thanks for your advice. i cleared the cache as instructed and not have success. my speakers still drop and sound is choppy.

how many speakers do you have connected? how many stereo pairs? how many in a group?

thanks again for your assistance.

BTW Beta testers are generally good at troubleshooting, and that's why they become testers. A person should not Beta Test just to have the latest updates before anyone else.  That is opening a can of worms for dealing with glitches.

Name calling doesn't bother me for I'm an advanced user like you and am not a Google Employee.  So either be open to the help or keep trying to troubleshoot on our own.

thanks for explaining the beta tester philosophy. while i can appreciate your explanation, that doesn't absolve from google providing a sound product or a means to efficiently and quickly exit the beta program.

their instruction are as simple as leave the program. however, it's not that simple or quick.

as far as your help, i'd greatly appreciate your help as advanced user beyond the standard reset this and reset that.

that being said, how many speakers do you have connected? how many paired as stereo? how many in a group?

i appreciate your efforts as an advanced user.

MsDrasby

I am not the one having the problem and you never answered if you tried clearing the Google Home and Assistant cache.

You also may want to make sure you are running the latest Android OS update.

MrJinx

here is my reply as i posted earlier

thanks for your advice. i cleared the cache as instructed and not have success. my speakers still drop and sound is choppy.

how many speakers do you have connected? how many stereo pairs? how many in a group?

thanks again for your assistance.

and my phone is updated.

Do you have a lot of notifications and apps running in the background on the Android device?

You might consider trying to run a speedtest: https://www.speedtest.net/

MrJinx

my speed test is 257 down and 118 up. i have att fiber. i upgraded my att modem two weeks ago. im using a tp-link deco x55 router bridged to the att modem. the att router is disabled.

i have the bare minimum of notifications turned on my phone.

what nest/home set up do you have?

i have 19 speakers. despite google denying it, i think there's a limit their Home\Nest will handle.

MrJinx

here's my latest issue with the Home app. When i try to create a group with either the Master Bedroom or Den speakers, the group is not created. When I added those two to my home, they had Nest speaker icons, too.

take a look at the screen captures. the two nest speakers have a different icon than the others (Home, Mini and Nest). any ideas whyScreenshot_20230116_175739_Home.jpgScreenshot_20230116_175749_Home.jpg

On your Google Home App do you have the word preview in the upper left corner. If so, tap the word preview and  then select Leave Public Preview. This is how you can leave the beta version of the Google Home APP I'm using.

According to the documentation the re-designed Google Home App does not support a number of older devices.

MrJinx

unfortunately, despite having the preview home app, i do not have the word 'preview' in the upper left corner. i do have the dog paw on the home logo.

when i go to preview, i see that i have left the program despite the preview app still loaded.

MsDrasby

Keep sending feedback via the Beta APP using the hashtag provided to you by the beta team.

Hopefully a Google Employee will respond to you.

what do i do after i've filled out the form and submitted feedback from the beta app numerous times?
