Playing local music or showing local photos

SteveTu

With the nest hub2 is there a way to play 'local' stuff? I have music and photos on both my laptop and on a NAS that are both connected to the same network as the hub2 - but I can't find a way to tell the hub to play music or show photos from the local resources.

I though the hub2 supported UPNP as I had seen this https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6274337?hl=en-GB ... but I can't find a way of setting up UPNP (or DLNA).

I do have media servers running on both my laptop and NAS that are picked up perfectly ok by other UPNP/DLNA compatible devices if that makes any odds.

Hi @SteveTu

You can use a media server like Plex to cast to your Nest Hub.
Set up a Plex server with your local music/photos files.

If you open the Plex app you should be able to cast to the Nest Hub. 😊

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware I can cast to the hub (and use the hub speaker asa  simple BT speaker), but what I'm after is being able to simply play or show UPNP/DLNA content on the hub directly at the hub - ie 'HG - play local Bobby Womack' or 'HG - slideshow local myphotos'.

I thought I'd found it in the phone app where you configure the linked music services - there's a bit that is headed 'Other music services' that has the text 'You can ask your assistant to use any music app on your phone or tablet' - but that option doesn't appear to do anything at all.

Is there UPNP/DLNA support within the nest hub?

Hi folks,

@RXShorty, thanks for the help.

@SteveTu, thanks for reaching out and sorry for the delay. I totally understand that this is a good feature to use with your Nest Hub, but this isn’t available. We appreciate people who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us. We're always looking for ways to improve. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it, here's how.

Let us know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise, we will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Regards,

Juni

OK - what then happens to that 'feedback'? Is there a list somewhere I can see of requests and how many people have asked for that facility? Or does the request just go into some black hole that I never get feedback on? What is the process?

Hi SteveTu,

Thanks for the response. We don’t have a list of where you can see the feedback that is being sent to us. Feedback is definitely being reviewed. This is where we get ideas on how we can better improve our products. Making calls through the speakers and displays was not available before but because of our user feedback, it is now.

I'll keep this thread open for 1 more day. If you have additional questions and concerns. Let us know by updating this thread, and we're glad to assist you further.

Regards,

Juni

But an invisible review helps only Google doesn't it?

Do I buy more of your products without the feature I need? But if the feature is approved and coming in the next release, I may wait  - or I may buy a different product that has the feature now. But I can only know either way if I get feedback from you about that feature request. It also gives me an idea as to how popular (or not) a feature request is.

Should I raise a feature request about having feedback on feature request....ooops, bit of an issue if I don't get any feedback on that request eh?

Hey SteveTu,

We appreciate your feedback. We don't have any information to share on when it will be available on the Google Home/Nest devices. I suggest that you keep an eye out for news and updates.

Let us know if you have additional questions or concerns about your device, otherwise; we'll be closing the thread after 24 hours.

Cheers,
