Home adds to list but does not confirm audably

My Nest speaker no longer confirms adding items to lists, even though it does add the item correctly. 

If I do this:

"Hey google, add eggs to grocery list", the lights on the speaker flash and it says nothing.  When I go look at my "Grocery" list in Keep, I see that eggs were indeed correctly added.

Up until now (several years), Google would always confirm that "OK, I added eggs..."  This only started around a week ago.  The speaker does respond to other prompts ("Hey Google, what's the weather...")

I did reboot the speaker and even my wifi router, but same behavior.  

Any clues?   Thanks in advance.

  • What specific type of Nest Speaker do you have?
  • If you share your home, are other family members experiencing the same issue when they use their voice?
  • Is the speaker powered on and plugged directly into a wall outlet?
  • Is the microphone physically turned ON (not muted)?
