How to set up Nest Hub 2 so that my son can ask Google assistant to call me?

Hi all, I've set up the Nest Hub 2 with my account and added my son (<13 years old) to this device. My son has a child account and I want to set up so that he can ask Google assistant to call me simply by telling "Hey google, call my dad". I went to Home --> Assistant setting --> Your people and set him as my son already, but when he tried to ask Google assistant, it kept saying that it doesn't have access to my son's contacts. I know that he can call me by using the touchscreen and select my contact, but is it true that what I want to do is not possible?

By the way, it would be nice if his mom can call him also on the Nest Hub, however, it seems that he cannot use Duo call with his own account as now Duo call is "upgraded" to Google Meet, which doesn't allow children <13 years old to use. Is it true?

Hey ndt,

Thanks for reaching out — let's sort this out.

A few questions: did you add your son's account to your Family link app? Did you add your contact details to your son's Google Account? For the Duo calling, his mom can contact the Duo account that is signed in on the Google Nest Hub since the child account isn't supported with Google Meet. Check this out for additional information.

Best,

Alex

Hi Azarco, thanks for the reply.

Yes, his account is in the Family Link.

How can I add my contact detail to his account? Cannot find it in Family Link.

If his mom call via the account in Nest Hub (which is my account), will my phone ring also? (when I am not home, it would be inconvenient)

Hello there,

You can check https://goo.gle/33LKKxi, make sure your child's account is signed in. You can check if your contact details are there. On the other hand, when you use the command "Hey Google, call (name)" using Google Duo, the call will go to all the devices that has the same name and are linked to Google Duo. So it would ring on the phone and speaker or display with that name.

Alex

Hi Azarco,

I created a contact "Dad" in his account with my detail, but when he asked Google to "call Dad", Google keeps asking "Who is your dad?". Anything more to do here?

Hey ndt,

Try saving a different contact name. If the issue persists, there's a chance that since you're using a child's account this feature isn't supported. However, I'll go ahead and check this with our team to make sure.

Thanks,

Alex
