Hub Maxx + Doorbell : familiar faces not announced

Spritchou
Community Member

Hi team,

When a familiar face is at my door, the google home app on my phone shows the name of the person but on the google nest hub Maxx, it only says someone at the door with the name of the familiar person.

Is this work by design or a bug ?

I thought the main reason of using familiar faces was to announce the persons at the door accordingly.

Thanks for your comments/advice/support

Hey Spritchou,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Sorry to hear about your experience with the Google Nest Hub Max. Let's try to get to the bottom of this. To confirm, are you using a Nest doorbell? What country are you located in? Is it working before?

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi,

yes I am using the ring doorbell on battery (and charging through wires). I am located in Canada.

I never saw the faces announced on my Hub maxx

Hey Spritchou,

Thanks for the information. Currently, this feature is only available for Nest doorbell cameras connected to the Nest Hub Max. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback and pass it along to the team. I also suggest that you send feedback using your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," or by following the steps on this link.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi. I am not sure i understand your advice.

I use a doorbell Nest camera and I also use a Hub Maxx. When someone rings, my Hub Maxx notifies me by saying there is someone at the door, which is working fine.

The issue is that my Hub Maxx does not mention the name of the person at the door.

I hope this clarifies my request.

Thanks

Hi Spritchou,

Thanks for clarifying.

With Nest Aware, you can use familiar face detection1 to teach your Google Nest camera to recognize faces of people that you know, and notify you when it detects people it doesn’t recognize. Over time, facial recognition becomes more accurate at determining familiar faces and can send you more helpful alerts.

You can also manage your familiar faces library to change a person’s name or remove familiar people from the library.

Important: Use familiar face detection in compliance with the law. Depending on where you live, you might need to get consent to have your camera help you identify people who visit your home.

Turn familiar face detection on or off

 Home app

  1. Open the Home app .
  2. Tap Settings and then Nest Aware and then Familiar face detection.
  3. Turn on or off familiar face detection for each camera.

Nest app

  1. Open the Nest app Nest app.
  2. Tap Settings Nest settings icon.
  3. Select Familiar faces.
  4. Turn on or off Familiar face detection for each camera.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess

Hi Princess,

Thanks for your help. Actually, I don't have issues with the face recognition option of the nest cam.

My question concerns the announcement of the hub Maxx when a familiar face rings at the door.

Thanks
