Hub photo's freezing, again

jp23
Community Member

I reported this issue months ago and saw the many responses of people having the same issue. Finally there was a recommendation from Google to enable the "Preview Program" for the device in the Google Home app, which I did (firmware version 11.20230306.3.135). This worked, for awhile. The frame is now freezing again and no amount of restarting seems to clear this up.

What changed from what appeared to be a fix to it now not working again? Thank you.

I think people have lost the energy. I know for myself I have now written off the hubs I have and will not renew my subscription for the cameras as the doorbell doesnt work as it did when I first had it. I will never buy or recommend and Google product ever again as they cant fix this what is the chance with an expensive phone. Wouldnt chance it.

I think we deserve some explanation from Google as to what's going on here.  There WAS (is?) a fix to this if you joined the preview program, but then this *.135 update broke things again?  What can be so hard about having a timer routine in an OS that does something periodically?  At the least, can you let us know if going back to whatever version is in the preview program will fix this?  Thank you.

Same here. We came back from vacation yesterday and it was freezing. I wonder if it has anything to do with us not moving around the room since we were away? Who knows. It’s just really annoying 🙄

I am sure this product set will soon be resigned to the bin as it must be a massive embarrassment to Google. A vast technology company that cannot make their own product work

I'm still on ....3.112016.  How do I get 3.135?  And, more importantly, it doesn't fix it???

I had the same question- I believe they push out the updates and we don’t control them 🙄

3.135 is for the Max only. When it was fixed with 3.134 all was good. Then they did 3.135 and the freezing started once again. If you have the smaller hub, I'm not sure what's happening on yours.

Google hub update to .135 back to freezing again

Steve, see the above thread also

It is such a shame to witness the shortcomings of the Google engineers involved in developing this product.

After finally getting the photo frame freezing issue fixed with firmware version 134, it seems the next firmware version has re-broken the photo frame freezing issue.

Hi @PAA

Currently there is a hotfix rolling out, but as a work around the the following:

  • Go to the device Settings > Photo Frame.

Under Slideshow speed, select a longer duration for how often Ambient images change.

If there was a hotfix rolling out three weeks ago, why is my Nest Hub Max still freezing multiple times a day?  Is there something I need to do to get the fix?  There was a fix in the preview program a couple months ago which worked for a while (I left the preview program after getting it), but a recent update seems to have broken it.  No one has yet answered whether joining the preview program will supply a fix.

I don't want to use a longer duration -- it's already at 1 minute, and 3 minutes (the next setting) is too long.

I did try changing from 5 second to 10 second duration on the slide show, but it is still freezing multiple time per day.

Hi PAA,

Thanks for trying the steps. Let's perform a complete reset to your Google Nest display and see if there would be any changes in its behavior. Here's how: https://goo.gle/32c7nIF

Keep me posted.

@Princesss  These steps do not fix the issue. Firmware .134 fixed the issue. Firmware .135 reintroduced the bug.

Ditto. A complete reset did NOT fix the problem. Is there some way we can install the previous firmware version (134) that worked?
I did notice that after a reset the randomizer seemed to show photos that I had not previously seen. The randomizer function for the photo frame is awful in my opinion, but that’s a separate matter…

After a month or so to the update to .134 when the freezing was fixed I now find it has gone to .135 and the freezing has returned.

Come on Google.  do you have no one testing this?

Same here. Ridiculous.

The current Production software is now .134 so I’m leaving the Preview program to get .134 back.

So I guess I have to do a total reset then.  I turned off the production software and am still at 1.35

I don't think you need to do a total reset.  When I left the Preview program it said it could take a day to revert to Production.  Probably needs to download the production software, should reboot itself and we'd be good.  We'll see...

thanks

Same problem here, again… Running firmware version 11.20230306.3.135. This is starting to frustrate me and make me consider binning the device.

Same z's. Leaving preview program. Can someone follow up and let us know if leaving reverts back to .134. Thanks

Seems as though my comment about reverting back to production firmware in a day was wishful thinking.

Still on Preview software after a few days on both of our devices and according to https://www.makeuseof.com/join-google-home-preview-program/ it could take up to a few weeks to get back to production.

"Once you leave the preview channel, your Chromecast, Nest, or Google Home speaker won't immediately revert to the production firmware. The production firmware will be pushed to your device within a week or two after exiting the preview channel."

I did a total reset and it still has not reverted back.     Freezing almost constant now.

Left the preview program but still at 135. Not sure what to expect…

Expect nothing to change.   Constant freezing.   and no response.

Was hoping the device would revert to non-preview firmware… but no.

Same issue once again.

I am trying to find out from google how to force back to 134.  I did a complete reset and that was a waste of time.  Still at 135.     Hopefully within 4-48 hours I might get something.    Hit chat in the google store as I did and ask how to revert to 134.  Maybe if enough people try it..   But goodluck with that.

butcher99, has your freezing issue been resolved? Mine has not and it's been very quiet here.

There was supposedly a hot fix released on Monday. Didn’t fix either of our Google Homes (older Max and older regular).

I think google thinks it's resolved. @Muddi

@Princesss

@KiiFromGoogle

well it was at .134 it is not at 135 and there seems to be no way to go back

OK.   Sounds good.  And thanks for the update and confirmation that Google is aware of this issue and working on the fixing it, @Dan_A

Is it just a few of us experiencing this freezing problem again? Are we on the right thread? No comments from KiiFromGoogle or Muddi so far.
