I can't broadcast on my Google speakers since I got my Pixel 8

I got my Pixel 8 last week and transferred everything over from my 7, all is working fine. Except now when I try to broadcast messages using either my phone or any of the 9 Nest speakers we have around the house, Google says to me "sorry it looks like there aren't any speakers connected to your account right now".

However, this message only happens when I ask to broadcast to a specific device or group. For example, if I say "Hey Google broadcast to Living Room" (or bathroom or upstairs) I get that message. But if I just say "Hey Google broadcast", it will ask for my message and broadcast to all speakers.

Curiously the problem isn't happening to anyone else in my house. My wife can say "Hey Google broadcast to upstairs" and it works as it always has.

I can see all the speakers in my Google Home app on my phone, adjust their volume etc, I just can't broadcast to them. I can't work out why this would be related to getting a new Pixel, maybe coincidence but it's the only thing I've changed.

I have the same issue and nothing has changed in my account.  All devices show linked but can not broadcast to a specific device(i.e. Hey google broadcast to kitchen display Is dinner ready?) but broadcast to all devices work.

Can anyone else in your household broadcast to specific devices and groups? That's what has me thrown, my wife and kids can broadcast to a single device or a device group but I now can't. I'm going to try to factory reset one of the speakers and add it again to see if it changes anything.

EDIT: Nope, still can't broadcast to the factory reset speaker.

FYI I've chatted with Google support on this today and they tried having me remove my profile from Google Home and re-add it (using my wife's account). That didn't fix it either, they've escalated the issue.

I did discover an amusing workaround while chatting to them though...if I change my voice so Google doesn't recognise me, I can get the broadcasting to work to a single device or group. I can say in (for example) an exaggerated Swedish accent "Hey Google, broadcast to Study" and when it replies "what's the message", use my normal voice to say the message. Let's see what Google support come back with.

I also had this same issue in the past 2 weeks thats how I came across this forum. I used to be able to say 'hey google broadcast msg upstairs' now I'm getting the 'speakers aren't set up on your account' reply. I also have a Samsung (Flip) phone and I get the feeling it could be an update. I've asked Google assistant the same message on an old iPhone (with the Assistant app) and this works just fine i.e. can broadcast to specific rooms/speakers/minis.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing. We'll work together to identify the cause of the problem and find a solution. A few questions: what Nest speaker or display are we working with? When did it begin? Were there any recent changes made?

Try to remove your voice match and set it up once more, then observe if it makes a difference. Check out the steps and the article  below to know more about it:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Home and then Settings and then Google Assistant and then Voice Match and then Other devices.
    • If you have more than one home, tap the home you want to remove Voice Match from.
  3. Tap Remove Voice Match from the home and then Remove.

Voice Match and media on shared Google Nest or Home devices

Regards,

Juni
