I can't cast to my nest speaker and hub

Konnos
Community Member

My devices are connected to the same internet as me but I still can't cast to them. I tried to factory reset them, it worked but when I restarted the router couldn't cast to the speakers. I tried so many different forums but nothing worked. Also I'm on a power line connection, if that helps.

Hi Konnos,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing with your Google Home devices. Thank you for your insights and best effort to troubleshoot your devices when casting media/music. I’d be happy to help!

Before we get started with further details, let me ask you some important questions:

  • What model of devices do you have?
  • Does the Google Home Devices display any error or messages?
  • Is the Cast icon missing in one app or multiple apps?
  • Is the speaker and display successfully set up?
  • Is the router within 15 to 20 ft (4 to 5 m) of the speaker and display?
  • Are you using a cast supported app?

Let's see some basic troubleshooting steps you can check in the meantime:

Basic Checks:

  • Device Reboot: I understand that you have already reset your devices, but try to restart your casting device, Nest Speaker and Nest Hub. This can often resolve temporary glitches.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: I understand that you reviewed that both your casting device and Nest devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. A strong and stable connection is essential for casting.
  • Apps Update: Verify that you're using the latest version of the Google Home app on your phone or tablet and also the casting app. Updates often include bug fixes and compatibility improvements.

Casting Specific Checks:

  • Casting App: Try casting music from a different app that supports Google Cast or Chromecast. This can help isolate if the issue is specific to one app or a system-wide problem.
  • Target Device Selection: Double-check that you're selecting the correct Google Home devices when casting music or media. You might have multiple devices listed, and accidentally choosing the wrong one could explain why music isn't playing.
  • Verify Casting Permissions: On your casting device, check the app's settings to ensure it has permission to access your media and cast to other devices.
  • Try a Different Casting Device: If possible, try casting from a different device to see if the issue is specific to your current device.

Google Nest Device Firmware:

  • Update Firmware: Make sure your casting app, and Nest devices are running the latest versions.

Please check the following articles to Play media from Google Cast-enabled apps or if you want to Cast media from Chrome to your Google Nest speaker or display.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Mario

Hi Konnos,

Thank you for following up. I apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing with your Google Nest Speaker and Google Nest Hub even after troubleshooting.

I understand that you have tried all the basic steps, however, before we get started with deep-dive  steps, it is important to know the details that were requested above. Please feel free to respond with the most important information for the questions.

As the last Resort and if nothing works, you could also consider factory resetting your Google Nest Speaker. Be aware this erases all settings. Please check the following article to Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.

Please keep me posted.

Regards,

Mario

Already tried factory resetting my devices without any success. Though if I ask the assistant to play music from Spotify I can control the device no problem, but when I tell the device to stop playing music I just can't control it.
