I hate Gemini on my Home Devices soooooo much!

I hate the new Gemini Assistant!  I ask what the temperature is outside, and it gives me the temperature to a place I was a week ago. I ask it to tell me a fun Christmas joke and it says something like: I'm not here for fun, I'm here for informational purposes.....yuck!

I Miss you Google Assistant...come back!  You were FUN! You answered back with FUN! I used to think Alexa was second rate: I just went to my mom's and talked with Alexa: she is so much more FUN then Gemini!

I have everything Google: camera, doorbell, home devices in every room, thermostat, phone, wifi. What a waste! Should I switch to Amazon?

I totally agree. I am so sorry I switched to gemini. There  is no longer a continue conversation so you can give a follow-up command.  Talking to her now is like a boring no personality robot.  She used to say your name in responses which made it more personal. Most of the things that it used to do don't work now. No way I am going to pay 13 bucks a month for this.

I have Alexa +, This is far superior to the new google home .  I guess my google home max and other  speakers I have will be obsolete . Just an expensive picture frame for photos.  I am now depending more on Alexa for doing things which I find far superior now .

What I'm confused about is that even though Google is getting tremendous negative feedback from their user base, it's full speed ahead for Gemini.  You would think they would not have released a product that should still be in development and not released. They won't even allow you to back out and go back to Assistant. I can only guess that there is something going on behind the scenes that we didn't know about. Who is being paid under the table? Follow the money. They sure won't be getting any more of mine. Good luck!

Dear CinderWater,

It sounds incredibly frustrating to feel that a product you rely on for everyday tasks no longer meets your needs, especially when you are so interested in the Google ecosystem. The changes in the assistant's behavior, particularly the loss of "fun" and contextual awareness, are valid reasons for dissatisfaction.

While your frustration is understandable, a complete switch to Amazon at this point might be premature, as there are potential solutions and ways to provide feedback that could improve your current experience.

Troubleshooting and Solutions

Here are steps to address the issues:

1. Location Accuracy

The assistant using an old location is a technical problem that might be fixable.

Check Location Permissions: Ensure that the Google Home app and the main Google app on your phone have accurate location permissions. "Always allow" is best for smart assistants.

Set Home Address: In the Google Home app, make sure your home address is set correctly under Settings > Home info > Home address.

Retrain or Reset Devices: For smart speakers or displays giving the wrong weather, try a Factory reset or retraining the voice model.

2. Reverting to the Desired Personality

The change in personality seems to be a design choice, but user feedback is the main way Google receives information to make changes.

Provide Feedback: On Google Assistant devices or in the Google Home app, say "Hey Google, send feedback." Use this to state that you miss the fun responses.

Check for Personality Settings: Watch the Google Home or Google app settings for any "personality" or "response style" options.

The Decision to Switch

Given your investment in Google hardware, switching to Amazon's Alexa ecosystem would require replacing most of those devices to maintain seemless intergration.

Here are factors to consider before making a final decision:

Ecosystem Lock-in: The main advantage of your current setup is how well everything works together. Switching means potentially managing two systems or replacing all the hardware.

Feature Parity: Alexa is often praised for being personality-driven.

Google's Response to Feedback: Google frequently updates its software based on user feedback. It's possible that enough complaints about the new assistant's personality will prompt them to reintroduce more casual interactions in a future update.

I'm following up, 2 weeks later.

I still HATE IT!

I've checked location permissions, home address, etc, and I still get incorrect responses.  I just want to know what the temperature is, and every day it gives me the wrong answer. I asked at 9pm, and he says "it's sunny outside and 80 degrees"...it's nighttime and 65 degrees. I have to reteach him daily...soooooo bad.

I hear ya!  I am right there with you.  Gemini is a total #Fail for me.  I am hoping against hope that Google is taking our cries for help seriously.  It is the only hope we all have at this point.  Gemini can't or won't teach itself. Good Luck!

Every day I hope that Gemini is fixed. I wake up, ask the temperature, he gives me weather and location for a place 300 miles away, or 500 miles away. Says it's sunny and 50, when it is still dark and it's raining and it's 37 degrees. I tell him where he is, in Clearwater Florida, he says he will remember that for the future...he doesnt. 2 hours later he gives me wrong info again. I give feedback daily on this, on the home app, no help.

I am exiting the preview, I hope I can factory reset everything, I'm so frustrated...Gemini is an awful, awful program. Why is it working for some people...why not me?

It is still a mess. Try to broadcast to all speakers and it can't now. Try asking to stream music to all speakers and it says ok but does not.  I have a older echo show 8 and have just bought 2 echo dots to place around the house. Fortunately my nest thermostat works with alexa so I am using that now. Gemini has gotten so frustrating to use now I have given up.
