Issue with "Good Night" routine disabling sunrise simulator

Mineki

Hello everyone,

I use a "Good Night" routine configured in the Google Home app to perform several actions, including setting an alarm by asking for the desired time. Everything works well except for one annoying detail: every time this routine sets an alarm, it automatically disables the sunrise simulator, even though it is enabled in my alarm settings.

I found a similar question, but the answers provided don’t make sense. Here is the link: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Sunrise-Alarm-not-automatically-turning...

Is this a known bug? Or is there a way to adjust my routine so it doesn't interfere with the sunrise simulator settings?

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions!

Hi Mineki,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that when you activate the Good night routine, it deactivates the sunrise routine. I'm happy to help you with this! Before I can assist, I need to ask a few questions to better understand the situation.

  • Is this a Personal or Household Routine?
  • When did you expect the Routine to start?
  • Is the "Activate Routine" toggle enabled?
  • What starters do you have configured to start the Routine? Which specific starter do you think should have activated the Routine?

I will be awaiting your response.

Regards,
Manuel

Hello,

Thank you for your response and for your help. Here are the answers to your questions to clarify the situation:

• Is this a Personal or Household Routine?
I’m not sure I understand the difference. This is a routine I use on a Nest Hub v2.

• When did you expect the Routine to start?
The "Good Night" routine is manually triggered, usually in the evening before going to bed.

• Is the "Activate Routine" toggle enabled?
I’m not sure what this question refers to. In my default settings on the Nest Hub (under Alarm > Settings), I’ve configured the sunrise simulator to activate 10 minutes before the alarm, with the light directed towards my bed. However, when the "Good Night" routine creates an alarm, it does so without activating the sunrise simulator, despite these settings.

• What starters do you have configured to start the Routine? Which specific starter do you think should have activated the Routine?
The routine is manually started via a voice command ("Good night").

I hope this information helps to resolve the issue. Please let me know if you need any additional details.

Best regards

Hi Mineki,

Thanks for your reply. I recommend checking if both routines are in the same section. Please follow these steps:

  • Open the Home app.
  • Tap on "Automations."
  • Check which section (Household Routines or Personal Routines) each Routine is listed under.
Make sure both are in the same section. If not, please move one of them to match the other.

I hope this helps!

Regards,
Manuel

Hello Manuel,

Thank you for your reply. I checked the "Automations" section, and my "Good Night" routine is listed under Personal Routines.

I wanted to provide additional information. I tried creating a "Good Night" routine under Household Routines to test if it would resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the sunrise effect is still not activated when the alarm is created.

It seems the issue happens regardless of whether the routine is in Personal Routines or Household Routines.

The issue persists. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you!

Best regards,
