Issues setting default music speaker for Google Nest Mini

I have what I feel like is a pretty simple home network set up (2 mini's, one Lenovo clock radio, and 3 smart plugs). Besides the outlets (which generally work without a hitch), I primarily rely on the Nest Mini in my kitchen, which I use to stream internet radio and podcasts. Ideally, I like it to be paired with a Harmon Kardon Invoke speaker, bc it offers much better sound quality than the little nest speaker.  Here are the issues I run into

  1. When things are working (connectivity exists, and I'm able to specify the HK speaker as the default player from within the Home app), I have to reset the default to the HK every time I stream anything, and then have to physically adjust the volume on the HK.
  2. Very often, the HK won't respond to the default setting, despite showing in the Home app as paired. Sometimes, even when Home shows the HK as the default under "Audio" in Home, it still plays through the mini's speaker.
  3. For whatever reason, the Nest Mini that I have in my kitchen often gets dropped from my Home group, and I have to rest the whole thing. 

I really enjoy the potential offered by the Google devices, but it's frustrating as heck to have them not working half the time. I'm shocked that this is the only question on the boards about the HK Invoke speaker.

Hey there, 

Sorry to hear about the issues that you're having with your speaker and the Google Home app, I'm sure it's confusing, but I'm happy to help. 

While we don't know much about the HK Invoke speaker, I'm happy to try to troubleshoot with you around the Google Home app. I would suggest doing a factory reset on the device, and uninstalling and reinstalling the app as well to see if that helps the issue.
