Look and Talk not responding on Nest Hub Max

itm

I've set up voice match and enabled "look & talk" on my new Nest Hub Max. When I look at the display I see the wavy row of dots in the top left corner, but it doesn't respond to any voice commands at all (e.g. "what's the time", "what's the weather", or anything else).

What exactly do I need to do to get this to work?

I've just tried changing the language to "English (US)" (I had it set to "English (UK)", as I'm in the UK).

It still doesn't work, though.

After setting language to English (US) reboot hub.  Look and talk should now work. You can now change to English language (UK) without rebooting.

Perfect - that worked!

Many thanks

Hello everyone,

@Rockabillybob, many thanks for your help here.

@itm, I'm glad that the Look and Talk feature is already working on your Google Nest Hub Max. I'll keep this thread open for three more days; please inform me if the issue happens again so I can be of assistance.

Cheers,
Lovely

One step forward, two steps back. I moved the Hub to a  new room (which required powering it off/on, of course), and now Look & Talk doesn't work at all. It doesn't register my face when I look at the display (i.e. I no longer get the wavy dots on the top left when I look at it). Look & Talk is still enabled for the device in the Google Home app.

Hi itm,

Have you tried moving your Google Nest Hub Max back to the old room? If yes, did Look and Talk work again or not? Kindly provide me with your Google Nest Hub Max's Cast firmware and Fuchsia version so we can look into this closer. Here's the guide: on the display, swipe up > Go to System Settings > Device information > Technical information > Look for the Cast firmware and Fuchsia versions.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,
Lovely

Look and Talk is now working sometimes in its new location. If I stand within 3 feet of thé Hub and stare at it for a few seconds it will respond maybe 50% of the time. So basically it's not usable/reliable

Hi there,

Please try factory resetting your Google Nest Hub Max and setting it up again. Let me know if Look and Talk works or not afterwards.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Lovely

OK I did a factory reset of the Hub, and went through the installation process again. The situation now is slightly worse than before: Look and Talk still doesn't work (even though I have it enabled, and re-trained it to recognise my face). But now I can also no longer use the palm gesture to stop/start media playback. Nothing happens when I raise my palm in front of the Hub (this feature was working before)

???

EDIT:I have managed to fix Look and Talk (and hand gestures) by changing the language to English (US) then rebooting....but now I can't get the Nest Cam to work. When I select the "View Nest Cam" option it says that the camera is offline. If I go into Nest Cam settings and enable home monitoring features it does not stay enabled - if I close the page and go back in, the Home monitoring feature is disabled again.
