Lowest volume has suddenly become too loud

Sandoz
Community Member

I listen to music while I fall asleep, the lowest volume has been perfect and has been for years. But today this got changed: anything from 3-10% is the same volume and much louder than before, while anything lower just mutes the sound altogether. Needless to say, I can't fall asleep when the music is way too loud for comfort.

Please revert whatever changes got made to the volume system as soon as possible, I need my music to fall asleep.

Can't help you but I'm having the same issue. I've always had the volume at 18 to 22% when falling asleep. As of this evening I've got it on 4%.

I always have music at 7... now I don't have music 😞

If your Google Nest Home is changing volume by itself, reboot the device and check your Bluetooth and internet connection. If the issue persists, turn off the "lower volume when listening" option on the Google Home app. You could also try adjusting the night mode, routines, and alarms on the Google Home app.

Regards,

Will

This isn't an issue with my device, it's Google changing the way volume works on their end. Lots of people are having this problem right now it seems.

Same issue here. Always had 15% in my kids room when hes sleeping. Now 15% is very loud and i gotta keep it at ~5%.  Started yesterday.

I have the same problem, i think its a system wide update that needs to be changed back.

The only thing that kind of helps (still not as quiet as it used to be) is if you ignore chromecast and just connect through bluetooth. It is a huge pain but hopefully it helps a bit until they fix the problem

Sadly, connecting to bluetooth compresses the sound and also makes the music too loud on my device, that's why I always used wifi on the speaker. But yeah, let's hope so.

Unfortunately I haven't found a solution to this. I tried night mode and whilst it initially works if I accidentally lower the volume to 0% (very easy to do when I have to set the maximum to 1%) when I change it back up it goes to 5% which is slightly too loud.

I thought I was going crazy and that my hearing was coming and going because it's been fine a couple of times in the last week but the other 30 times have been way too loud.

Apparently if enough people bring attention to it Google may actually investigate so hopefully all of us complaining helps with that.

If not I'm just going to find a different Wi-fi speaker that gives me better volume control.

I have the same issue on my all devices including Google Home and Chromecast

Same! I used to have it at 14% and now I don't have music because even at 1% it's too loud 😩

Same thing. Google Home & Google Nest hub. I used to listen music at 10-15% but since the start of this week I now listen at 1% or 0%.... why did they change the volume settings of a speaker device over an update like that this is mind boggling ! 😫

Hey everyone,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It seems like we've been seeing an increase in reports about the volume of the Google Home/Nest speakers being louder than usual.

To help the team to further look into this, please send feedback on your device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: GHT3 volume range issue. Learn more about how to send feedback on our Help Center.

Once you've submitted feedback, please let us know in the comments what type of Google Home/Nest device you have, together with the firmware version."

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey everyone,

I'm checking in on this thread since it's been a while since it was last updated. There's no new news to share at this time, but I'll continue monitoring the thread and updating it as I know more.

I'm sorry for my impatience but this is really frustrating. I was hoping this would be a relatively quick fix but it's been six weeks now with no progress whatsoever.

Any news?

I have the same issue. No matter which speaker brand (Bang Olufsen, Genelec, JBL) I use.

A volume level of 1% is loud enough to break a normal conversation, 5% you really need to shout over the music, 10% is totally unbearable. Also, no difference when streaming from mobile (IOS or Android) or laptop (MacOS, Windows 10), Spotify, SoundCloud or Tidal.

5 x Chromecast Audio, fw: 1.56.281627

Is there any chance to roll back to older firmware if there won't be a new one?

Hello Muddi,

any news here on lowering the lowest possible loudness? My wife cannot sleep anymore when I listen silently to the radio...

Thanks

Device: Google Home Mini

Hi Im having this problem as my ex set up google home/best device which i cant access. He controls the Sanoz speaker/alarm system my son usually needs to wake up of a morning. i dont know much about google nest other than discovering my ex broke into my home recently found my google password and im back in that cycle again. How can i remove access from my google account?. it seems more than just changing my password as he has already changed the recovery email and i cant access my account any other way, he enabled face ID somehow (he has access to many accounts including my apple ID/icloud) he may have ticked permission to access across several devices. Can you or someone out thete hell me. thank you the original owner of rhis account

Already submitted feedback.

Device: Google home mini

System firmware version: 324896

Cast firmware: 1.56.324896

Please fix, 1% is way too loud for me to fall asleep to

Same here. All my Google Home / Nest Audio devices. My experience has gone from good to horrible, since I have to be adjusting volume per song between 8 and 12%, which takes precision and it's annoying.

Before, I was steady at 30%.

Lenovo Smart Display 8 (1.56.285116)

Google Home (multiple) (1.56.324896)

Google Home Mini (multiple) (1.56.324896)

I also have Lenovo Smart Clock, Nest Audio, but I don't listen mto music on those.

There was clearly a change a few weeks ago that directly affected the volume. It shouldn't be hard to identify and fix. Thank you

Muddi, a status update on the actions being currently performed by the software engineering staff on resolving this issue, and or a timeline that shows progress to completion is kind of in place, as this takes forever

Seedeetee

When is this getting sorted. Been doing my head in for weeks now! I've resorted to just playing music out of my phone speaker if I want it quiet. Ridiculously poor from Google.
