Hi Pw24,

Thanks for reaching out.

You can add non-Google Nest Matter-enabled devices to the Google Home app so you can control Google Nest and non-Google Nest devices with one app. The Google Home app will guide you through the steps.

If you want to connect non-Matter devices to the Home app, you can find the instructions in Set up smart devices in the Google Home app.

Make sure that all of these are checked:

  • A Google Account
  • A home Wi-Fi network
  • For devices that use Thread, you need a Thread Border Router to complete setup
  • A mobile phone or tablet with:
    • Android 8.1 or later
    • Google Play services version 22.48.14 or later
    • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 4.2 or higher
  • Latest version of the Google Home app
  • A Matter-enabled smart home device. Look for the Matter logo on the package.
  • A Matter-enabled Google hub

Add your Matter-enabled device to the Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app and make sure your Matter-enabled device is powered on.
  2. The Google Home app should automatically detect the Matter device and send a pop-up notification. Tap Set up in the notification.
If you don’t get a notification tap Devices Add   New device. The app will look for devices to add, if it doesn't find one, it will show a list to select from. Tap  Matter-enabled device.
  3. Scan the Matter QR code of your Matter-enabled device.
  4. Tap I agree to connect the device to your Google Account.
  5. Select the home where you want to add your Matter-enabled device.
Note: If you don’t have a Matter-enabled Google hub, the Google Home app prompts you that a hub is required to control your Matter-enabled device through the Google Home app. You can still add your Matter-enabled device to the Google Home app, however you won’t be able to control it from the app or with Google Assistant.
  6. Once the device connects successfully, select a room where your Matter-enabled device will be located and name your device.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess

Those steps you posted for MATTER is what I've don't & get the error I have posted. The nest 2nd gen is on 11.20230306.3.112014 not sure if it's that device or Google Home that's gotten corrupted. Any help I can't add any device, I can't even pair a device from Alexa to Google home?

Hi Pw24,

Have you already tried performing a complete reset on your Google Nest speaker? Let's try that first and see if this would make any changes on its behavior.

Keep me posted.

Hi yes I have reset before, but I have just reset the nest hub 2nd gen again just now, but get the same message when I try to add a Thread MATTER device.

Can't connect to thread network NEST-PAN-02F*

Check that your device can work with this network type and try again.
