I am using the wired Google Nest Doorbell Cam along with (2) Google Nest Hubs in different rooms.
I always wondered what that microphone icon on the screen was for.
So I tested it.
When the microphone is displayed on the screen (see below), that means that it is in the OFF position and NOT transmitting nor receiving sound thru the HUB.
When you press the icon, it displays a bar across the icon and a wave gif image is displayed (see below) indicating that its ON position transmitting and receiving sound.
I tested it by turning on my music player on my cell phone and placed it front of my Nest Hub.
I went to the door to check to see if I can hear the music. To my surprise I could hear it and it was very loud.
My neighbor was just returning and about to open his apt door and kind of freaked him out. LOL
Anyways, just a suggestions but don't you think it should have been setup the other way around.
It just makes more sense.

Hi rayvnuno,
Thanks for posting.
I believe you are referring to the "Talk and Listen" feature on Nest Camera and Doorbell. Talk and Listen lets you talk to people through your camera even when you're away from home.
We appreciate your honest feedback about this that's why we’d like to encourage you to send a feedback for any features that you’re looking forward to using with our Google Nest devices.
Best,
Princess
