Morning Routine Automation Playing Wrong Playlist

I have been using the Nest Audio as a speaker system in my house. I have about 8 or so devices distributed around my house. I have set up a "Mornings" Automation, which is a series of steps with the last one being "Play music". I have a Spotify Premium account linked to my Google Home app. For some reason, despite multiple attempts to name my playlist something distinct, the Google Home Automation is playing a random playlist.

This is frustrating, as one of the main reason I purchased the Nest Audio is to use the morning routine Automation.

So far I have:

  • unlinked and relinked my Spotify Premium account (multiple times)
  • unplugged and replugged in my Nest Audio that is in my bedroom, which is the one that is supposed to run the automation (multiple times)
  • Created multiple private playlists with random characters as names referenced that in the automation (multiple times)

None of these have resolved my issue. If I can't get this figured out, I will return the Nest Audio as this broken feature completely defeats the purpose that I bought the devices for.

Why is this happening? Why can't the Google Home Automation read my playlist name in quotes and reference the correct one on Spotify?

I see multiple users over the years with this same issue. Is this going to ever be fixed? Is this going to be a reoccurring issue? Again, if so I want to know because I will return my Nest Audios and switch to another ecosystem.

I'm truly sorry to hear that you're experiencing inconveniences with your Nest Audio, where it's playing the wrong or random Spotify playlist during your morning automation routine. I understand how inconvenient this can be, especially since you purchased the Nest Audio for this purpose. Help’s here!

I really appreciate the efforts you’ve performed so far. To continue investigating the situation, I’d like to ask the following:

  • When was the first time you experienced this behavior? Does the History view in the Home app show that a routine ran?
  • Is this a Personal or Household routine?
  • Is the device part of multiple routines?
  • Can you successfully perform the routine's action using the Google Home app or Assistant voice command?
  • Did you receive an error message notification or verbal response from the Assistant-enabled device on which the action failed?
