Multiple Google Home Devices Responding

cfoxusmc
Community Member

This began very recently; within the past couple of days.  All of my devices within earshot are responding to my commands.  I'll stand in the living room and say something to the Hub located in there, and I will hear responses from the Mini in the office, the Hub max in the kitchen, and the Hub in the living room.

Hey all,

I will escalated this over to the Community Specialists to let them know. You shouldn't need to factory reset but you could try a reboot.

Thanks for reporting!

This has started happening to me as well. I just googled it and noticed you had only posted a minute ago. Very peculiar.

It looks like a lot of people are having this issue (myself included). There are some other threads where factory reset on all of the devices in your home should do the trick (I haven't tried myself yet).

See: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Multiple-devices-responding-at-the-same...

Oh geez.  I have like eight devices, not including all the Chromecasts.

Yeah, I feel your pain. I need to block off an afternoon just to go through them all and make sure everything is working as expected again.

Factory resetting all devices should not be the fix. I also lost speaker groups during the last couple of days. Ouch.

Things seem to be back in working order for me, since Feb 1st, without reboots/resets necessary. Kudos to the Google Team for reading and reacting.

Hello @Muddi Basically it looks like Google responded and fixed the issue, so unless anyone says anything different, this aspect of the issues caused by changes to Google Assistant/Google Home due to the Sonos issue, has been resolved.

Same here. Even trying to speak very quietly it's like the Google Home Speaker in my bathroom suddenly has super sonic hearing. I'm literally trying to whisper, "Okay Google. Goodnight." to start my nighttime routine in the bedroom, and the bathroom starts blabbering on.

Same! To the point where I feel the other one didn't hear but caught the request via another device.

Same problem here. All seemed to start when Google updated the Home app after losing a court battle with Sonos. Multiple devices respond to voice commands causing failure of commands or out of sync audio. Also, one of my speaker groups no longer works, even after resetting it several times. Have even changed broadband provider, but sadly no improvement. C'mon Google - fix the issues and inform your customers. They'd prefer it if you owned up and fixed the problem, rather than being aloof and proud

I'm also having the same problem.  Two Google home mini devices are answering at the same time if they both hear the command.  Something has definitely changed, as this never used to happen.

Same issue here. Very frustrating when you throw lots of money at Google by buying a bunch of devices then they can't manage to keep basic functionality working properly.

I started having this problem recently as well.  I have several devices, and often when I speak to one that's 3-4 feet away, one in another room will respond.  Sometimes even after the one I was near already replied.  I set the sensitivity to the lowest level on all devices, but it didn't seem to help.  This never used to be an issue.

Thanks for moving this up the chain. I might give a reboot of all devices a shot. That's pretty painless.

Something is definitely up with this so we will make sure the team is aware and hopefully they can fix quickly.

Appreciate your help with reporting this in the Community!!

I'm having the exact same issue. It's so annoying that I stopped using my devices.

I'm another user joining the club for the same problem!

I’ve been having the same issue for the past 2 days. It’s extremely irritating!

Absolutely having this problem that did not exist in the past. My phone responds as well as too minis all at once. In my basement my display responds as well as my phone. Sometimes doing different things. Which is even worse. This did not happen in the past. Please fix this.

By the way I found this on another thread and the joker at Google just said hey guys start another thread on this instead of actually addressing the problem. How to punt Google! Or should I say Apple

Also I've seen things about factory resetting each device. Yeah right I'm not going around and doing 23 different devices to fix the problem. You invest in this stuff and the Google folks just screw it up and then don't care to even respond. I just went through and rebooted every single mini, Google home, nest home, and home hub that I own which is alot.  This did not fix the problem by any means in fact it seems worse now. This needs to be fixed. It's been driving us nuts. We set a timer in the kitchen on the home hub and then two minis also set timers. I have three things going off at different times and have to keep saying stop stop. So basically I should only have one of these in my house apparently. Perhaps I'll be trying to send them back to Google. For double my money back refund.

I've been having the same issue, just within the last two days. Very irritating

Having same issue as described above, I rebooted devices, factory resetted some, but not all, reset the wifi network, had them forget the wifi network, nothing has worked. Must be something related to Google

@JillG Thanks for picking this up. I was one of the posters who posted about this issue, but can you also look at an other problems that have come up whenever the change was made? I also struggle to get one of my speaker groups to work and seem to get regular drop-outs when streaming radio. This happened around the same time so I suspect there may be a link. Also, do you have any idea how long the fix will take? Thanks. Kambo

Hey Kambo,

I honestly have no idea if other issues may be part of the update related to: speaker group/Sonos nor any timeline for this multiple device response fix.  Just looking through this Community and seeing odd speaker group behavior makes me wonder if the Sonos issue is related. For your drop out problem-  I suggest removing your speaker groups, reboot your devices and recreate the groups. A reboot of your router may also be helpful.

Thanks @JillG . I've managed to fix the speaker group issue now so it does indeed look like that one was unrelated. Will do what you suggest ref dropouts. Thanks for your message and good luck with sorting the multiple device issue. 😁

I believe that I fixed this by creating a speaker group with all my devices then deleting the group.

Kambo
Community Member

@VgY5dd Strangely enough I did that earlier too and it coincided with the problem disappearing. Weird - but happy it's fixed. 😁

Happy to report this issue is suddenly fixed for me (it had been going on for about a week).

Seems to be working better than normal today at about noon. Whoever fixed it seems to have done a good job.  All done without any effort on my part.

Mine is back up too and the errant speaker group is also working. @JillG looks like it's been sorted. Thanks for escalating. 😁👍🏾
