Multiple Google Users on the same WiFi

Hi

Ive got Google Home Audio speakers in rooms around my house.

I’ve recently given a google home audio speaker to my daughter, but I’ve got a problem. As it’s under my account, when she plays Spotify on the speaker in her room, it kills off my session, and vice versa.

Should I get her to setup the speaker as her own, as she has her own Spotify?

if I do that, will I still be able to broadcast to her room (same wifi network), and will she still be able to access the other speakers and set them up as speaker groups?

im assuming that the speakers are locked to a single user account at a time, and that they don’t support voice recognition?

@Si

Maybe this is a Spotify problem, that Spotify cannot broadcast from 2 different Spotify accounts to 2 different Nest speakers on the same Wi-Fi network, perhaps because there's just one IP address for your Wi-Fi network.  That'just a guess.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reaching out.

@MplsCustomer, thanks for your help on answering this thread.

@Si, thanks for the details you've shared. Technically speaking, Spotify can only play to one speaker at a time if they are using the same Spotify (premium or not). Since you mentioned that your daughter wants to access her own calendar too, it's best if you will set up her device using her account. However, this will not let you broadcast a message to her speakers as it only works when using the same account.

Hope this answered your question.

Maybe.

However, my daughter would also want to access her own calendar checked too.

I'm thinking the answer is I set it up as hers, but then we lose the broadcast function

I think it's been answered, but it's not the solution I needed.

Wanted my daughter to have her own speaker with her own account for everything, but still be able to broadcast to her.

I guess there's no way to send messages to other Google account speakers? Nothing you can do if you set up a Google family account?

Hey Si,

The best way is to add your account on her speaker. In that way, you and your daughter can set up own music services then be able to broadcast on your speaker. Visit this link for more information about sharing home and devices on the Google Home app.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Muddi, I’ve just done that, but I’m really not clear. Same devices, same household, she has her account added. Does this mean that the nests do voice recognition, so she can use her own Spotify account, and access her own calendar?

Hey Si,

That is correct! If you link multiple accounts on the Google Home app, it will require you to setup a voicematch so the Nest Audio will recognize which account to use when someone says a command. This will include accessing her own Spotify and calendar.
