Multiple Nest Audio users & YouTube music

Razzie
Community Member

We've just got 2 Nest Audio speakers and a nest mini. We have a YouTube music family subscription, there's myself, my husband and our teenage son. We all have our own Google accounts so we are all part of a Google "family" and household, and have our own playlists etc.

How can we get the speakers to play from our own YouTube music accounts?

All the nest speakers are on my Google account. I read various support topics before we bought them and I was under the impression that using voice match, the devices would know whose music account to play from.

This topic seems to say that you can do this

But others I've read say you can only have 1 music account per Google account.

Hi Razzie,

Thanks for reaching out.

Since you've mentioned that you are using a YouTube Music family subscription, all you need to do is to add the other accounts as family members. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. Switch to the home you want to share.
  3. At the top, tap Add Add and then Invite home member and then Invite person.
    • If you don't find "Invite home member," tap Add person to home.
  4. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to invite to your home and then tap Next.
  5. Review what’s shared when you add someone to your home and then tap Next.
  6. Review the person’s access to your home and then tap Send.
  7. If your Google Family Group isn’t full and the person you’re inviting isn’t already in one, you should get the option to invite them to your Google Family Group.
    • To invite them, tap Add to Family.
    • To skip this step, tap No Thanks.
    • Note: You can have up to 6 members in a Google Family Group.

The person you invite should receive an email with instructions.

Note: If the person you want to invite has already requested to join your home, you need to accept that request instead of sending a new invitation.

Make sure that all the member's voices are trained and successfully linked. Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Thank you. That was the solution, but it was more complicated than first thought. When our son turned 13 we opted to keep his account as supervised by us using the family link. This meant that he couldn't be added as a true household member. We have had to end the supervision so that we could add him to the household properly, which has solved the music problem but not really in the best way. You shouldn't have to sacrifice that level of safety, and I do feel that Google should be making this easier because you can see so many people in the community with similar issues.

Hi Razzie,

We understand and I know that there are a lot of things to improve. In the meantime, we’d like to encourage you to send a feedback regarding this matter and for any features that you’re looking forward to using with our Google Nest devices.

Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise we'll be locking the thread in 24 hours.

Best,
