Multiple speakers wake to “Hey Google”

WhiskerBiscuit

I’ve got various Google speakers throughout my house, and I’ve set all of them to make the “wake” chime.  If I’m in my living room and say Ok Google I hear the chime on the LivingRoom speaker and the Foyer speaker.  I don’t like that.  I only want one speaker to answer me, and that is the closest speaker to me.  I’ve adjusted the sensitivity +2 on  LivingRoom and -2 on Foyer.  But the Foyer still responds when it shouldn’t.

Please don’t tell me to FactoryReset, because we all know that is a Hail Mary the cable company gets you to do when they’re stumped.

Hi WhiskerBiscuit,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? What is the exact message you're trying to give? Is it happening on all voice commands?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Hey there,

I wanted to follow up and see if you still need help. Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Regards,

Dan

I’m not going to power cycle everything.  That’s something the cable company would get you to do when they don’t know what’s going on.  Is there a support forum where Google reps actually answer?

Hey there,

Apologies for the delayed response. It would help us isolate your concern by rebooting your device since we don't have a way to access your devices. We ensure that the link between all your devices, through Wi-Fi, are refreshed. You can also do a soft reboot using your Google Home app on your phone. Follow the steps below:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings > More > Reboot.

Tell me how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan
