Music keeps cutting out

jcocucci
Community Member

Recently, when I ask my Google home assistant to play an album, the music cuts out after five or 10 minutes. This has happened consistently for the past month. I have rebooted the speaker, I have rebooted my router, I have cleared the cache from Spotify. Still, if I ask the assistant to play an album for me and try to fall asleep by it, I am awakened by the sudden cessation of the music. Any thoughts?

Hi jcocucci,

This is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? Were there any recent changes made? How often does it happen? Have you checked the subscription you have with Spotify? Is it a premium account?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Once done, move your Nest speaker near your router. Try to play an album, a playlist, a song, or an artist and see if there’s a difference.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your response.
The speakers are not Nest; they are Google Home Assistants, before Google partnered with Nest.  No changes were made.  It happens almost every time I try to play an album.  Spotify subscription is Premium.  Yes, I have done a sequentialk reboot, several times.  Is it possible that these speakers break down after 5 or 6 years?

Hey jcocucci,

Chiming in, to further isolate the issue. Please try setting up one of your devices using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Home device). Once done, check if your device will have the same behavior.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey jcocucci,

To confirm, have you tried connecting your device on a different network like mobile hotspot?

It seems to be working better on the mobile hotspot. But that is not a great solution for me. Does that help you figure out what the problem is?

Hi jcocucci,

Thanks for trying. It looks like an issue with your network signal since your speakers are better when connected to a different network. Let's make sure that your speaker is within the recommended distance (15-20 ft.) away from the router to make sure that it is getting enough signal. Also, a factory reset will help to refresh the settings on your Google Home device. Follow the steps below to know-how:

  • On the back of your device, press and hold the microphone mute button for about 15 seconds. Your Google Home will let you know that it's resetting.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi
