My Nest Hub (1 gen) and Nest Hub Max won't show photo location

Vatvedt

Since my request was closed, I have to create a new one. The problem remains, so I think closing it was unnecessary. Here we go again:

I have two Nest hubs. One Nest Hub 1 gen. bought home in Norway, and a Nest Hub Max bought in the U.S. I'm using the photo frame feature, and it shows my favourite pictures from Google Photo. I would like the Nest Hub to show the location the picture was taken as well. The only thing showing in the corner is the album name.

I've enabled showing data from personal photos in the hub options on both devices. I've never gotten this feature to work in Norway where I'm living. Shouldn't the Hub be able to show location?

I've tried showing photos from other Google Photo albums, but same problem. Even though Share Photo Location is enabled. Still just showing the album name. No location.

Could this feature be disabled in Norway?

Any help is much appreciated.

Max is on System fw: 276689

Nest Hub 1 gen is on fw: 4.20210608.1.1146

Hi,

Yes, please. I would still like the photos showing the location they were taken on my Nest hubs. They are just showing the album name, date, time and weather. My photos contain EXIF data with location. Google Photos app shows location, but Nest hubs won't display it. It would just be nice to have.

Edit and a bit off topic: I replied a few days ago to your first message, but I got an error in my gmail-app, telling me that the address didn't exist. Strange.. The reply using gmail-app on Android just gave me this. "550 5.1.1 The email account that you tried to reach does not exist. Please try double-checking the recipient's email address for typos or unnecessary spaces. Learn more at https://support.google.com/mail/?p=NoSuchUser z18-20020a50f152000000b0042aba7bd960sor1294160edl.65 - gsmtp". Nevermind. Seems to work as long as I use the website.

Please advise,

Regards,

Hey folks,

Sorry for the late reply and would like to chime in. Could you check the settings of the photo frame settings and check if “Personal photo data” is hidden? Here's how to check: https://bit.ly/3NhaXtx

Best,

Nikki

Thanks for the reply. It's not hidden. The only things hidden are the Weather Frog and Air Quality. The "Personal photo data" only says "Show owners name and album name" (translated from Norwegian). Both my Max and Nest Hub 1 Gen has the same options.

Hi Vatvedt,

Thanks for the information. Have you tried resetting the device and set it up again? Here's how: https://bit.ly/3aevCOg Let me know if that works.

Best.

Hi Nikki,

No I haven't. I'm skeptical of that solving thie issue. I had the same problem with my Nest Hub 1 Gen, and the problem persisted when I bought the Nest Hub Max. The Max was a much later addition, but with the same issue. Because of this, I don't really think that would solve the problem. I'll keep that in mind, though.

Hey Vatvedt,

Got it. That's okay. You  can also try deselecting the album then select it again. If that doesn't work, you can also try to un-link and re-link your account. Here's how: https://bit.ly/37MTMha

Hi,

I've tried to show images from another album on Google Photos, but same result. I'm unsure why re-linking my account would fix geo-location, when all other things work? Also when the problem was present on my first Nest Hub 1 Gen device, and later on my Max. The Max had to be linked a good year later.

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

Hey Vatvedt,

My apologies for the delays. Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. Please note that re-linking your account from your device will refresh the settings, and it will help us isolate the issue further. Also, please check the current version of your Nest Hub and Hub Max.

Check the software version of your Nest display:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings  >  About device. You should find your 'Software version' and 'Cast firmware version'.
  3. Scroll to the bottom. If 'Operating System Version' is also listed, this means that your device runs Fuchsia (for Nest Hub 1st gen only).

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Here's my current info:

Nest Hub Max
Software version: 45.3.10.415344900
Cast firmeware version: 1.56.295071

Nest Hub 1 Gen.
Software version: 45.15.3.412086197
Cast firmeware version: 1.56.291758
Operating System Version: 4.20210608.1.1146075

I'll see if I can re-link my Nest Hub 1 Gen. Sorry for the late reply. My three year old takes up a lot of the time. 🙂

Un-linked and re-linked my 1 Gen. now. No difference. Had to factory reset to be able to re-link it.

Hey Vatvedt,

Thanks for that information. To confirm the location is not showing in all photos, right? Please share a video showing the issue so we can further check what's going on with your devices.

Hi,

Yes, that's correct. No images are showing the location. We're still talking about the geographic location, right? As in where in the world where these pictures taken? I can see the location as in the album name, of course. What's the best way of sharing a video? Dropbox link is ok?

Hi,

As mentioned in my last reply, there is no link. I can't click anywhere. The blue underlined text is just that, blue underlined text. It's not that the form doesn't work. It's the link to the form that doesn't exist. Please post the URL to the form again, as the last time you tried to post it, it didn't work. 🙂
