My Nest won't control a device

lray801

I have a Chromecast on my network that my hub refuses to control. Anytime I ask it to control said device, it tells me it doesn't know what device I want to control. Other nests in my house have no trouble with this. They're all on the same network, in the same location.

Check the Nest app version.
Check the status of the Nest service.
Make sure your home Wi-Fi works.
Move closer to your router.
Restart your router.
Reset your thermostat and mobile device.
Check the settings on your Wi-Fi router or access point.

Regards,

Will

I have several nests throughout the house and none of them struggle with this, which is the most frustrating part. WiFi is fine, everything's up to date.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting.

@lray801, we're sorry to hear about your experience with using your Google Nest speakers to control your Chromecast device. Since you've mentioned that you have multiple devices connected to your networkl, have you already tried unplugging your router after you have experienced it?

Let's go ahead and unplug the router from the power source for at least a few minutes and plug it back after. That way, we can avoid the congestion on the network, and try to see if this would make any changes.

By the way, thanks to @WillJoe123 for helping out.

Best,

Princess

I've actually replaced the router since this happened.

Hi lray801,

How was it? Is it working now?

No. I'm not sure why you would think it would. I mean, I wish it would magically fix itself, but that doesn't appear to be happening.

Hi lray801,

Thanks for responding. Have you already tried resetting your Chromecast? Make sure that when you set it up, move the Google Nest Hub closer to the Chromecast and try to cast manually. You may also try these commands once you're done setting up your Chromecast: https://goo.gle/40RdgKS

Let us know how it goes.

Princess
