Nest Audio Bluetooth keeps disconnecting

j0ashm
Community Member

Just purchased a Google Nest Audio this week.

To my dismay, the Bluetooth on it just refuses to work.

I try connecting it to my phone via Bluetooth, the connection works for about 3 minutes and then suddenly drops off.
I can’t reconnect to Bluetooth.

I end up having to completely reboot the nest device, forget the device on Bluetooth and then do the entire pairing process again.

extremely inconvenient. Are there any solutions to this?

There's a chance it might be less to do with bluetooth, and more the wifi. I'm going to be testing putting a router in my room, and testing speeds/connection to see if that changes things. Otherwise, I've seen people say Google is "working on it", but this is my initial thoughts for now.

I've had my Google Nest Audio for about a year and mine has been having this same problem with Bluetooth dropping several times a day. Even though it's a different connection type I suspected the problem must sit with the network so I assigned my Google Nest Audio a Static IP. It didn't seem to make a difference so after a week or so I changed the default lease time for IP addresses on my router from 2hrs to 24hrs and it now only drops the Bluetooth once a day.

Seems that google will never fix this issue !! September 2021 and still same problem ! Shame on you google !

and now 2023 and the issue is still not fixed

2023 and Google nest speakers are being more stupid than ever ! 2023 and google speakers still don’t understand prompts and voice ! 2023 and google nest speakers still are obsolete and can’t do simple requests ! 2023 and nest speakers still can’t connect together to a tv for a seamless experience without lag. 2023 GPT3 and AI and still google is not updating devices and making users experience easy. 2023 and Google is still pretending there is no issue and not taking care of  customers. Happy new year everyone but not to google

Since I changed "group delay correction" from the default value of 0 ms to 50 ms, I do not have much problem. This setting can be accessed with home.app on Android. With 5 or 10 ms, it drops Bluetooth connection rather frequently.

If you haven't tried already, assign a static IP on your Google Nest Audio and then increase your router's lease time for IP addresses. I changed mine from the default of every 2hrs to 24hrs and now the Bluetooth only drops once a day. This doesn't fix the issue but it seems to mitigate the frequency at which it seems to be happening. My guess is that when its IP lease is renewed it also refreshes all its other connections which is why Bluetooth might be dropping. I submitted this recently under 'Feedback' for 'Nest Audio' just in case this is the issue and they can resolve it or it at least points them in the right direction.

Same issue ! This is not normal at all ! I need to reboot my device each time . Google need to push an update asap, but if course they will let this like that and pretty sure no update will be enrolled

Same here! once you buy a Google product you are then left alone. Not much support. Sales is what counts for them.

Very dissapointing. They only reply with a canned message to justify the "replied to customer comment" and that's it. All pink and fluffy stuff with no essence

Exactly ! Shame on google for letting customers alone !

100% same issue

They will never fix this issue for sure ! Last time purchasing google products !

Same 100%, I'm asking for a refund now.

You are right ! They don’t want to fix the problem even though they know the problem is here.

Hello everyone, new problem on google nest audio but also on google home mini, when i play a song with Spotify on both speakers (grouped speakers) there is a cracking sound, it happens after 1 hour of music play time . Hope google will read thèse comments and try to fix with an update.

I had this same issue for the past three days and here’s how I’ve gotten mine to stop disconnecting:

in the google home app, within the speaker pair settings (I have two of these nest audio speakers set to stereo pairing) there was a blue background notification at the top that I hadn’t noticed. It said I needed to sign into my google account for the speaker pair separate from the google app itself. Not sure why… after going through the prompts and reconnecting them to my tv via Bluetooth it so far hasn’t disconnected and I haven’t had trouble with entering pair mode or Bluetooth.

I troubleshot some more and had this same issue again. The issue was that there is Interference in signals. I was using an Apple TV to stream Bluetooth audio to a paired set of nest speakers. My Wi-Fi router, Apple TV, and both speakers were very close to each other. Moving my router out of the entertainment center AND putting more than 3 feet between the Apple TV and the speakers seems to have solved my issue. I hope this helps

If that is thr solution, people who live im 600 sq feet of space still have no solution. My router is too close to the speaker and I am in between eeen both with an ios device or sometimes I'm right next to one or the other.

Hope your solution is still working.

I mainly have BT disconnect of my paired nest audio connected to a Chromecast with Google TV when I switch from Disney+ to Netflix. Occasionaly a disconnect when selecting a new show in Netflix. Rarely during a show and when going to next episode. Lead me to think the reconnect between apps or shows is the issues. If its the devices, Chromecast or WiFi is sufficient to asses.

Still unresolved. Google has finally acknowledged that they need to fix but still haven’t. Seriously ridiculous.

I got the Nest Audio, not knowing that in my country it's all but useless as a smart speaker. I really only wanted it for playing music from my phone so I thought it wasn't a waste but with these bluetooth disconnections happening multiple times a day, and with the reconnection process being so involved, this is basically a brick. So I'm hoping this at least gets more visibility and is addressed by Google.

I have a Google brick now too. Even in the US my nest audio speaker became useless so now it's a brick.

Might turn it into a pretty doorstop.

this has been my issue with my nest audio speaker for the last 8 months now, have to reconnect the bluetooth like 20 times a day, they have been saying its being worked on for  like almost a year. v__v im getting sad honestly. i just want it to stay on permanently im so burned out having to tell the google nest to "connect to bluetooth" twice in a row. for some reason after it disconnects it still thinks it is connected the first time you ask it to connect

Same issue

Google are knowingly selling faulty products and providing no fix or consistent support. Terrible product and support.

I've reluctantly switched to fire TV and echo's..... Which work seamlessly together.

The UI sucks but I'll take functionality over that any day.

Please Google, update your products to bring them upto speed with the competition!

I am seriously thinking about dumping Roku, google,  the whole mess and moving to the fire stick. Whenever I go over to my friends house, they have this great access, all of these great viewing options that come with it, and best of all everything works, all the speakers everything. I’m so tired of fighting with all of the speaker and ridiculous Google problems!

It's absolutely frustrating to use buggy Google products, knowing they probably have the smartest engineers on earth working for them, yet they can't release a fully functional product.

maybe they are not so smart after all

Same here!
Plus i have the reconnect nest speakers every day or I'll be able to connect my phone via Bluetooth, but no sound will come out.

Hey there,
Sorry for the late response, but I wanted to drop in here to help.

I understand that these issues can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this? If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Garrett DS

I returned these speakers months ago, thanks.

No troubleshooting required.

Google needs to update their products to align with the capabilities of their competition and also to meet the expectation they set when they released these speakers and Google tv.

Hi GarettDS, the connection just drops randomly, both with bluetooth and casting. I'm not sure what to troubleshoot here. It's definitely a product issue.

Hi Garrett,

I've had my nest wifi/speakers for more than two years and EVERY SINGLE DAY I have issues connecting my iPhone to them. I must always unplug the cable and wait a minute before I'm able to connect via Bluetooth and play music from my phone.

If I change speakers (ie. from bedroom to kitchen) I must do the same on the other speaker I wasn't connected to. Once in a while I'm able to use Google Home to activate speaker B to play the music I'm playing on speaker A. Most times it'll connect but no sound will come out until I unplug/replug.

And let's not even talk about my inability to use Apple Music within the app as it started showing up as an option (beyond Spotify or Youtube) about 2 months ago (I'm in Puerto Rico) but it gives me an error message when I try to play music through it.

Thanks for any support you may provide!
