Nest Audio Stereo pair - Bluetooth has constant dropouts from right speaker

This is an ongoing issue that is making my Nest Audio stereo pair unusable for a use case it's otherwise great for.

A Nest Audio stereo pair being used for casting/playing audio requested from 'Hey Google' works fine. It plays fine and sounds great. A stereo pair of these is a wonderful sounding smart speaker solution.

However, I also have a projector which I have a Chromecast with google TV plugged into.

I can use the Nest stereo pair as the speakers for the projector by connecting the Chromecast to them via Bluetooth.

However! The right speaker of the two (they're just on either side of my bed) constantly drops out while playing this audio, which makes the experience terrible. It's pretty much unlistenable as it stands, as having one speaker constantly dropping in and out is horrid.

It's not just bluetooth from the Chromecast, as if I use bluetooth headphones while watching it's perfect.

It's not just WiFi connection for the speakers, as stereo sound not sent over bluetooth to them is working fine.

It's the combo of Bluetooth to the stereo pair in particular.

I've factory reset them.

I'm using a Deco X20  mesh wifi, and I've tried locking both of the Nest Audios to the same base unit, both to 2.4Ghz, both to 5Ghz, both with mesh on and off...

It's so frustrating that it works in so many ways, but fails in this large one.

Hi @spoco2,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Nest Audio constantly dropping the connection on the right speaker when connected to the Chromecast with Google TV via Bluetooth. I understand this could be frustrating, and I appreciate you confirming all the troubleshooting you have tried and the detailed description of the issue. I’m happy to assist.

To gather the necessary information, please answer the following questions:

  • When did the issue start?
  • Are there error messages on your Google Home app?
  • Are the Google Home app and device firmware version updated?

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards.

Derick.

Hi Derick,

Thanks for the reply.

* It's been doing this since I've been trying to use this stereo pair in this form via Bluetooth, so I'd say around 6 months or so. I've had the speakers for years.

* No errors that I'm aware of. Is there any extra place to look for these?

* Yes. They're all as up to date as they can be. I am in the preview channel for the device firmware I think.

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply. For further investigation of the issue you are having, please provide me with the following information.

  • What is the cast firmware version of both the Nest Audio and the Chromecast with Google TV?
  • Did you try to pair the stereo speakers after the factory reset?
  • Does the dropping happen entirely when the music plays?
  • Are both the devices placed on a solid, level surface and away from the edge of the surface?

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Derick.

here's the details of the speakers, I can't get to the Chromecast at the moment.

This has been happening before and after full resets.

It doesn't happen during playing music via casting, only when using them as speakers for the Chromecast via Bluetooth.

They're on my bedside tables, both level.
