Nest Hub (2nd gen) not returning to low-light mode after snoozing alarm

I have low-light mode with Ambient EQ already configured the way I like it, and it works great UNTIL the alarm starts. Because I’m in the medical field, my alarm is often set for the middle of the night. When the alarm starts, the hub gets bright (as it should).

The problem is, when I snooze the alarm, either by tapping snooze, waving gesture, or using Google Assistant, the alarm snoozes but the hub remains bright and does not automatically go back to low-light mode, and will remain bright until I swipe the screen back to home. This is true even in the middle of the night when it’s 4am. This is bothersome because the point of snooze is to get more minutes of rest in, but this becomes difficult due to this brightness, interfering with sleep. This is particularly bothersome when using the sunrise feature, which really brightens the entire room.

Again, the only way I’ve discovered to go back to low-light mode is to ask Google assistant to return to Home Screen, or physically swipe the screen back to home, which then, after a moment, returns to low-light mode. Because this also takes cognitive energy, these actions alone interfere with sleep.

I hope I’ve made this problem clear. I already understand how to configure and use low-light or ambient EQ. This problem is particular to screen brightness after snoozing an alarm.

Is there a solution or setting for this problem? If not, can this bug be corrected in the next update?

Hi Nishant3,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let us help you. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Was it working before the way you wanted it to?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot instead of a simple reboot:

  1. Unplug the power cord from your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Also, you can try to turn the ambient EQ on or off and control the brightness. Here’s how:

  • From the top of the screen, swipe down to open the Quick settings menu, then tap Brightness . To adjust the brightness, swipe the slider left or right. To turn Ambient EQ on or off, tap Brightness  again. In this case, it should be off to see if the behavior persists.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan
